Like yours I presume? :) :) :)

If that is how you think, Just making a comment.

THREE Smilies pretty much hints at a joke. Egads, that was a good "touchy" impression of yours.

Uh, yeah I don't think he's the only touchy one. There's a difference between "just making a comment" and "oh my gosh you're so wrong how dare you say something like that".

who will know the difference between filters, and authentic lens produced impressionism?, could be a workout for the site council with validations.

Excellent point. I wonder how far will be considered too far in terms of creating things that weren't there to begin with.

Particularly this from the "may not" section:
"use distortions to create new effects or radically alter objects"

I got 99.9% of my effect in camera, but voters won't know that.

*heads off to submit his original so it's in the system when the validation request comes in*

I included my method in the description, to hopefully head off a full blown validation request. Got it in-camera this time. :)

Why would this be any more work for SC regarding validations when it comes to the use of filters? Many of the filters would be quite similar to the effect obtained when grunge was all the rage. Basically texturizing, adding noise, etc...

Totally agree with this quote...

Forgot to add, that I will join you.....

You May NOT:
use ANY editing tool to move, remove or duplicate any element of your photograph that would change a typical viewer̢۪s description of the photograph (aside from color or crop), even if the tool is otherwise legal...

This should be fun... :-D

FWIW, turning a boring photo into a impressionist painting with software completely changes MY description of it.

So if I use something cool like LensBaby or a distortion filter to CAPTURE my image... you guys are gonna mark it down for looking like it was created with a Photoshop filter?

I have a pretty good art history background, but as I found in another thread, there is photographic impressionism as well as the Impressionism period in painting, started by Claude Monet's Impression: Sunrise. So it's a toss up as to how knowledgeable people are and how they are going to vote. I don't have a pre-conceived notion as I think it is up for interpretation.

Good luck all, as of now, I've not entered. I have one I might consider, but not sure if I want to hear "DNMC." ha ha ha

Well, technically nothing should get marked down if it's thought that the image was done illegally - a validation request should be generated.

As far as the use of filters, considering this is an Advanced ruleset challenge, I would think that a photo would have to be totally butchered to run into trouble...

Should be interesting. :D

I won't vote it down, but I might hit the validate button. Then again, given the wild variety of effects from the first impressionism challenge, the wild variety of effects I've seen in the Critical Mass team thread, and the wild variety of effects I got in my own shots, it'd take something pretty incredible to make me doubt it was done in-camera.

Am I missing something here? Is this challenge running under Basic or Minimal editing ruleset? Does it make any difference if done 'in camera' or not? I know there are some 'in camera' double exposure restrictions.

Getting me all confused on what I should be considering when voting for this. It is Advanced editing ruleset for this right?

Sorry. I managed to confuse when I was trying to clarify. I'll vote on whether it's a nice picture, just like always. And as always, if I suspect some effect was created out of nothingness by some processing, I'll hit the validation request button while voting on the assumption it's legal.

Yes, it's advanced editing, but if you blur something detailed into total lack of detail, or do similar extreme things, it seems to me it needs to be validated by the SC.

What I was trying to say, though, is that since this whole challenge will likely be filled with interesting effects that aren't usually seen in challenges, I'll be less likely to request validation.

That's not a painting, it's just an impression of a painting.

Off topic... why aren't you a SC again?

I think I've gotten into it with too many of them over the years. ;) We're all friends now, but still, do we need another opinionated SOB on the SC? ;)

I appreciate the sentiment though. Unless you were saying that to foist curses upon my head...

I see.. you are a trouble maker ey?

Did you break-in to database and steal all the ribbons, and they couldn't prove that you did it... so you kept all the ribbons anyway LOL.

Well, just wondered... nothing more :)

No, but I did come up with a basic-tools legal way to add a vignette to a picture. That got feathers ruffled on all sides. They won. Dammit!
