It will be interesting to see the knowledge base for this challenge, many photos will have undefined subjects but will still be of true impressionism, this will be interesting. |

My impression of the Impressionist challenge is that the impression that the Impressionist challenge will leave on the impressionee will not be entirely the impression that the impressioner intended to impress in the Impressionist challenge.
Impressed?? I'm not!

THREE Smilies pretty much hints at a joke. Egads, that was a good "touchy" impression of yours.

Let's just hope the "too much noise" camp realizes that granularity is part and parcel of impressionism... Not that an impressionistic image HAS to have noise, but that it is entirely acceptable in context.

I predict a purty pitcher that looks like a painting will win.
I predict a small percentage of voters would know an impressionist painting from any other painting movement, other than possibly surrealism. I certainly don't. I'm in the other group.
I predict that an even smaller percentage would know what a photograph based on impressionism looks like, as opposed to a photograph that looks like an impressionist painting. I'm in the other group.
I predict a low score for my entry because I'm in neither group, despite what I said above.
I predict that the small percentage of people who both know what impressionism is and participate in the forums will complain bitterly about the "idiots" who don't meet the description in the previous paragraphs.

Take picture, slam it through photoshop 'artistic' filters, click submit, kick back. An entire period of art reduced to a few mouse clicks. Love it. |

Oops - forgot one.
I predict that a high-scoring photo that started life looking nothing like a painting, but ended up looking like one because of processing, will be decried as cheating.

Well, all this is not stopping me from using my Photoshop filter and submitting it. Composition and vision will still be important. But it will be very difficult to predict which one will come out the winner. Often there are a few you know will end up in the top ten, but I think that will be harder in this one. I just finished re-editing mine so that it looks more "painterly" and less "blury photography".

Can I join the predictions?
If so - then I predict that whoever does well will be taken to task for 'not' being whatever they're not - GRIN! |

Being a painter I should have been happy with this challenge announcement, but I had no time to think about anything good for it.
So I entered the photo I took for bokeh challenge.
Of cource ran it through some artistic filter of photoshop. Life is cool, I have another 5.5 entry. Would be fun though, seeing how it is judged.

you'd think it would be a low scoring challenge, but the last one, albeit in 2004, produced 5 7+ scores in 42 entries. That's pretty high. It will be interesting to see the outcome of in-camera effects versus PS effects. Last time the in-camera won 9:1 in the Top 10. |

I did my "impresiionism" in camera. I know I can do it in Photoshop, but where's the challenge in that?

Ah, I did not see that. Dang, we should start another "we should have a master's challenge" thread. That would lead to a great discussion. I'd hold out hope except I've heard Langdon say he was never, ever going to have a Master's challenge again. |

I love that the challenge description says to "learn." I hope the voters "learn" before they vote. I promise to learn something about Impressionism before I vote. Anyone joining me? |
