I'm masking one layer to have parts of it completely gone. But they won't go away completely. I'm using normal mode and 100% opacity and flow for the brush.

Help! Am I missing something completely obvious??

Sigh. The black wasn't 100% black.
So yeah, it's all good now.

hmmmm, you could try checking to make sure your black is 100% black.

Yeah, that's the one that gets me. Ctrl-H to hide the selection borders while you try stuff is great, but then I forget and can't figure out why changes won't affect other areas!
