Well, I have been using PBase for almost year now to host my images. When I do a shoot for someone I will create a password protected gallery for them to view the proofs. When they place the order I have the prints made locally and then ship them after I get payment by paypal or directly if they are local.

My one year is almost up, and my fees for hosting are due. I have heard lots about smug mug and if they are really any good, I could concievably not have to look after having the printing and shipping done, which would be much easier for me.

The down side is that I live in Canada, so I am not sure if it would be convenient for my customers to order through SM and have their orders shipped from the USA.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? (especially if you are from Canada)

TIA

Ernie

Hi Ernie!

I use SmugMug & the service has been terrific. If you don't get the info you'd like here, try the user's support forums for SmugMug:

DGRIN

In my signature is a link for a 14 day trial period for SmugMug - feel free to check it out, and please let us know how it works out!

You can go to smugmug and ask them that question. I emailed them a bunch of questions before I joined. Good luck!

If you open a Smugmug account you can save $5.00 on the subscription by entering my personal coupon code (qzDagz7w1S78w) in the 'Referred by' field on the signup form.

Three responses and only one has half assed answered his question.

I think people pimp their smugmug code to quickly around here.

Mick I think it is completely rude for you to post yours for him AFTER Billy has already done so. But it is Just my opinion.

I would hop on dgrin and ask that question or email smugmug directly.

I think you're getting your panties all bunched up over nothing. Chill out dude!

Do you know the answer to the OP's question? If so, then spit it out. Otherwise... well, I'm sure you'll think of something.

Not getting my panties in a bunch.........I just think it is rude to throw out YOUR referral code AFTER someone else already has. YOU didn't even attempt to offer any suggestions to his problem. I question if you even read it.

Edit to Add: Mick I have always respected you. You helped me when I started my smugmug I even used your referal code. And I still have total respect for you and what you have done to help me and others here but that move was just wrong.

Nobody else posted a referral code. rossbilly mentioned that his signature has a link for a 14 day trial period for Smugmug, which, as far as I know, isn't the same thing. But, perhaps it is. Either way, it's none of your business if I want to offer the OP the chance to use my code to save some money, is it?

It looks to me like you assumed that I didn't read it. And you're wrong about that too. And, whether I read it or not is also none of your business. If you have a problem with something that I post, then you should use the 'Report Post' button to report it to the SC. However, I don't think it's against the site rules to offer to help someone save some money. The OP is certainly under no obligation to use my cupon code.

If you post in a PUBLIC forum it IS anyone's business.

Go back and read everyone's first post up until my first post. The first two offered help......you offered up your coupon code, nothing else...just a coupon code.

And yes the 14 day trial and your thing is the same. My point is proven and I am finished.

And I very much appreciate you using my code. Thanks to people like you using my code I haven't had to pay my $100 per year Smugmug subscription fees since I first opened my account. Add that to my print sales and I actually make money by having a Smugmug account. Of course, I wouldn't be able to say that if I hadn't offered you and the others the use of my cupon code. :)

(just to clear things up, the link in my signature IS a direct sign-up link using my coupon/referral code.)

Mick, James knows that, as he is the one who helped ME setup a SM account, and he was simply watching MY back, as he knows that my subscription is up in a few days & we don't exactly have money layin around @ our house.

I can understand it not being immediately recognizable as a 'coupon', and understand the confusion - no hard feelings here.

James, thanks for watchin out for me.

for what it's worth, the longer you stay with Pbase, the more storage space you get for the same amount of money. they automatically increase the size of your storage space if you renew. if i remember correctly, mine was doubled at my first renewal. not sure if Smugmug does that or not.

Got'cha. I suppose I should have checked to see if the offer you mentioned included the discounts for both parties. My bad and my apologies to you both.

Did you find the answer to your question? If not, I may be able to help you find out.

As for not having money lying around the house, I fully understand that situation. We seldom have to vacuum the stuff up around our house either. :D

I have accounts open with both smugmug and pbase right now. I created my smugmug pro account because it supports ordering online with markup. Outside of wanting to sell images for profit, I really like the flexibility of the pbase gallery and image structure. In fact, I continue to update my pbase account even after paying for smugmug pro. Images can live in more than one gallery and galleries can be nested. Zenfolio is adding pro support as well, which I think could be very interesting.

Thanks for the input. :)

I am starting the free trial using the coupon from Rossbilly.

Still not sure about being able to use it for event photography here in Canada. I am concerned about the shipping prices and time it would take. I guess I will have to order a print from my own gallery and see what happens.
