I figured as an aspiring wanna-be, I'd just post one picture and ask for comments. I have yet to receive a single comment (granted, it's in a forum, not a gallery).

So I've decided to get more active (well, active) and leave comments of my own.

I'm just back from a week away and couldn't vote or comment during that time, but the results of the Monuments challenge is seriously uninspiring.

I did get some commments though, which may be down to the fact that my shot was a bit more off the wall compared to the more conventional show of US strength demonstrated by the some of the top 20.
"Have fun and be creative." ???

Mavrik, I've got to say that your shot may have suffered from this lack of inspiration too - what is there to comment on? And to stop commenting doesn't make sense - it's like refusing to let someone out of a turning ever again because a few people didn't show any gratitude as they drove off.

This is one challenge that really should have rewarded creativity rather than a well-known or heroic subject.

I haven't taken part in any of the challenges since last 4 weeks.... Although I was banking on the monuments challenge as just before it was announced I had opened a thread as a sugession for the same.

But it turned that it was a "members only" challenge.

Also the voting for such a great theme atleast from the aspect that everyone got to see worldwide history sucks bigtime.

Then again it's just me probably!!

Nothing really to 'spit out'.

I just feel 'out of sync' after this challenge. I removed my message because I did not want at all to look like I am asking why my shot did so bad or that I am constesting the numbe of 1s or thintgs like that. I am not interested at all in that.

Voters rules. The winner was in my top 3 this week. But other than that
I thought the quality was not very good. Some statue shot were really what I would call 'study of light' (and in my top 10), some others were, I think, not good at all. That's why my rank for this shot disapoint me a lot. Middle of the pack would have make me happy but 84/96. So i guess almost everybody did a good shot and I did a bad one.

Maybe my shot was not creative, or 'bad creativity'. It does not mater that much. I am still happy I did it. Happy i submitted it ? certainly not ( I had other really shots that did bad but never that feeling ). Still my strongest 'political picture' so far ;-)

Anyhow .... wanted to say that becasuse it looks silly to have an empty message at the beginning of the thread, which I should not have start.

I gave ya a 7! I thought it was very humorous and was very creative for this challenge!
I only beat ya by four places, and I am not sure why mine did so bad. I thought I did a halfway decent job technically and catching some good morning sunlight...oh well...that is the way of the voters. And only 6 comments, and none really that mentioned why it is below average.

Agreed - I would give it an 8 but then most of the shots that I like end up waaaaay awry

It is actually creative! It makes a statement.
And it does it in a clever, visually appealing way. I gave it 8.

And I wish this was within the top five (..actually at the very top):

I agree. I thought your entry was either "risky" or "risque" and neither one traditionally does well here, but it's important to keep trying.

I set the threshhold for an "effective" picture pretty low; if one person is moved or amused, that's really good enough.
