Perhaps it was? Movement is speed, no? Perhaps the effect was a bit much?

for what its worth, I think its a bit too much, or not enough, with the BG and the subject blurred its hard to describe it as movement with no reference point.

Still 101 out of 201 doesn't make it a bad shot, infact its as close to the middle line as it gets :)

The ghost image is disconcerting IMO. It's not helping convey speed, not like the motion blur does, and it's sort of distracting.

Bear, I actually was torn on that before I submitted. I wasn't sure if it added or distracted.

a little more stylizing (or not) and it would be well suited for the blur side challenges and gallery.

It is a bit hard to look at, but lovely at the same time. I wondered if maybe the colors were contributing to the disorientation of it for me, so I ran it through a quick no-frills b/w gradient map to see, and I think they do. It's much easier to look at in b/w, with none of the motion lost, and heck, there's always something classy about an artsy fartsy b/w, right? ;-)

I think it's an AWESOME idea that you should experiment with more.

B & W maybe? Stronger DOF to smooth the jagged highlights?

a ghost image is a perfect image of Speed. It capture the 4th or 5 th dimension.

Think this picture conveys more of speed because of the more obvious velocity.. the context shows off more..

You're probably right Urfa... in my mind that photo was just too plain though.
