Just want to improve my art and was looking for suggestions and constructive criticism of some of my pictures.

Yo Spiff's efforts on Flickr

The ones from the Catskills were taken several years ago with a 2MP point and shoot. There are some missing highlights in the waterfall, so I did the best I could with the picture. I was aiming to capture the wet look of the rocks. Most of the others were taken with a Nikon Coolpix L6, and the two Umbrella plant pics are from the first batch I took with my new camera, A Fujifilm S5700. I think the UV filter on the Fuji is causing some loss of detail. I want to protect the lens, but not at the expense of image quality. Is this normal ops for such a filter?

Thanks for any and all feedback.
