An aquaintance of mine called me today and wants to get some sexy shots for her 1 year anniversary. We're going to do the shoot in my house probably on the bed. She wants black and whites. Anything I should consider for this shoot? Lighting, bedding color, anything? Thanks alot everyone!

Make sure you tell your S.O. to prevent her coming home to a naked woman on your bed?

lol, yeah my girlfriend will actually be here during the shoot. That would be impossible to explain! "But honey she's the one paying me!" LOL! :D

soft light will flatter her more unless you are making porn type shots.

Yeah I was thinking soft light already. Not porn shots, just sexy lingerie or maybe nude artsy shots.

will her hubby be in these shots, or is she making them to give to him as a gift?

tell her to bring a prop... or write a note.. or something that can be included in the shot that only he will understand.

That's a cool idea. Thanks!

You might want to check google under Boudoir photography.

You mean cheesecake photography?

Jerseys or t-shirts of fave sports teams as the only piece of clothing is a common theme as is other sports memorabilia. Keep the shoot light and fun.

Lighting as said before is best light and soft. Remember the biggest softbox you own is likely your ceilings and walls. It's much easier to bounce strobes off walls than it is to shoot them directly at the subject.

Experiment with poses to emphasize the positive and minimize the negative. Stop and look at the pose before you point the camera at her.

Most important tip... don't get wood in front of your S/O... bad idea... j/k

Cheesecake is more geared towards "advertising" than boudoir. Boudoir is personal bedroom photography, where cheesecake is commercial pop art.

have to agree...a single white button down mens shirt can really add some sex appeal, some think you have to be totally naked to have it sexy (and I'm not saying that doesn't work too) but sometimes leaving enough to the imagination can be even better. One of my favorite shots my wife sent me when we were dating was of her in just an Ale-8 (it's a kentucky thing) shirt and holding a bottle of it...damn I love that picture, would have made a dang good Ale-8 ad too lol. I'm assuming sexy is what she is after but this can also add classy to it also. Someone here has a wonderful shot of a woman lying on her back and the photo is taken from her head towards her feet, there is just the right amount of blur and DOF to really make the shot stand out from others I've seen. Just some ideas.

not sure why fotomann was worried about you having woodies with your S.O. around, would duckies be any different?...oh wait, never mind, I get it now...wood not woodIES ;) j/k

The photographer I assist in these types of shoots asks the models not to wear anything tight fitting the night before/day of the shoot. The last thing you want is marks on the skin from bras or panties.

Exactly.

Also, keep the room a bit warmer than you like, since, not having clothes on will make it seem even cooler for her. Feeling chilly will make it harder for her to relax, not to mention, shivering and goosebumps are not really great on film.

Well, this was something I was a little worried about before my first nude shoot, but the class instructor said it's unlikely to happen - the act of making nude photography shots is remarkably unarousing for the photographer. He was right.

The previous suggestion about tight-fitting clothes is an important one. Alternatively, an hour is probably enough for clothing marks to disappear so your model could always come around, change into something soft like a bathrobe/dressing gown, and then you can use the time to discuss and plan the shots that you want to do. Also make sure she doesn't sunbathe for a few days beforehand so that you don't have to deal with sunburn or tan lines.

If she's going to have to climb up onto the bed or any other raised surface, provide a stool or step of some sort. It's difficult to climb up onto things elegantly when you're naked.

Having some music on in the background can help relax your model too and keep her from being/appearing bored.

The clothing marks are worse if the model is dehydrated. Tell her to drink plenty of water. I've also been told that applying a damp washcloth will eliminate them rather quickly.

I thought that was for getting pressure marks out of carpets when you move the couch?...hummm who knew. Is a very good tip though, one I hadn't thought of.

Good point about marks. "They" recommend that a model wear loose fitting clothes and no bra for the 2 hours preceding a nude/glamour shoot to prevent lines to begin with.

Music is a good idea. I generally try to get suggestions on the playlist from the subject beforehand. Find out what type of music she likes most. People are most comfortable with familiar sounds.

Generally I stay away from the massage parlor music. :-)

I've done shoots with heavy metal playing, rap playing, country playing. I can tune out the music, but it does help the subject.

I suggest that you don't laugh when she takes off her clothes : )

Don't forget to look at your "background" make sure there is nothing there that clutters the photo. You might have to do some rearranging.

Nothing is more disappointing that a beautiful shoot with "crap" in the background.

damn you guys are getting LAME! every single one of you forgot to say 'show us the proofs & we'll help with the editing'!!!

ok ok...

be very mindful of stray hair on / around the face
let her eyes tell the story
'if it can bend, bend it' (slightly)
shots from a side-ways angle are more flattering than straight-on
if you find yourself saying 'I can fix that in PhotoShop', STOP, and fix it NOW
just like the body, broad views of the hands are typically less flattering (don't show the back/palm of the hand - show the side)

Let us know how it goes...

Not nude specific; but here are a couple of old threads that I started about working with models. Lots of good advice from other DPCers. You may or may not find some of the info useful.
