Hello I am titling a print and cannot decide on the best gramma for the title.
Should I go for "Amongst the Clouds"
Or "Among the Clouds"
And should i capital the A and the C or just the A or indeed the T as well??
Cheers - I am not normally that thick but it's bugging me!

Either "among" or "amongst" would be correct, I believe. "Amongst" makes it sound a bit more sophisticated, though.
The "the" does NOT need to be capitalized. The "A" and "C" should be capitalized.

Karmat is correct, but what got me was the title of this thread.
I thought you needed help with your Gramma, dammit!

Most modern style guides consider "amongst" pretentious and recommend "among", but that's an American perspective. May be different in BritSpeak, which still uses the archaic "whilst" for "while" :-)

Fowler reports that the two forms of the word (etymology: on gemang -> onmang pre 1100, -> regular phonetic gradation amang, among). By the 14C. the variamt amonges had emerged and by the 16C., by form-association with superlatives, among(e)st. The surviving forms among and amongst have competed with each other for several centuries.
Among is now the far more common of the two (by a ratio of around 10:1, and amongst is less common in AmE than BrE). There is no difference in meaning between the two and no rule about when each should be used.
BTW I highly recommend Fowler’s Modern English Usage for these kinds of questions – it is the generally acknowledged authoritative guide.

Whilst we are speaking of modern American styles, I would have recommended titling the image: "hang'n out wif da cloudz" (all lower case) |
