| I recently sold my 30D to free up some money for closing on a loan. They wanted me to have X number of dollars in the bank to approve me. Now that I have closed on the loan, i still had the extra funds in the bank. I fully intended to buy a point and shoot camera, read all the reviews, and posted a few wanted ads for a powershot. Then this afternoon i catch myself browsing around the fancy section on ebay, and before i knew what happened i bought a low mileage 1D MK1. Is there a dslr curse that I don't know about that kept me from going back to point and shoot? |

Yup... it's called image quality!
I recently looked over some of the newer P&S reviews, ensuring that I perused the sample images. Quite impressive performance, actually, but compared to what I get out of my DSLR, the images have *major* warts. I'd never go back, not even for portability. I think this is, subconsciously, where you're at.
ETA:
And that's not touching the questions of creative control and operational speed.

| I think one problem i often face is telling myself "for just this much more money look at what all you get". I was going to spend 400 on a powershot s5, then another hundred or so on a wide angle adapter, then memory cards si ce all my compact flash cards wouldnt work in it. Then i saw this monstrous 8fps, low actuation, 45 AF pointin' beast for $800 shipped and weighed the difference in what i pay and what i get. |
