If you take away the ability to change the photo once submitted, people would not be able to hold a spot.....actually why am I bothering, it seems then whenever someone make a suggestion to improve something here they get crap from the very people that are whining about it....

I think DPC should add a Avg vote cast column in everyones portfolio under EACH challenge. See illustration below.

I would love to know the average vote I have cast per challenge, and even better a bell curve graph so I can ensure an nice wide spread. |

You can easily gather this statistic for yourself by going to the results page and click the box to "Order by my vote" -- then count how many of each vote you made. |

If you use Firefox you can use this extension written by pwm6. It will give you your average, and show you your biggest discrepancies between what you voted and and how the image finished. It is really cool, actually got me voting more so i could see how I match up to the group. Turns out I vote way higher now than my average and most of my top votes score around 5.8-6.2. |

Gee Codfish... if you get upset every single time someone questions the validity of one your suggestion, perhaps it is best that you say "Good Night".
You might also take into consideration that critical analysis of something is not quite the same as "Getting Crap", and I can assure you that you have never heard me "Whine" about the current state of affairs.
Take a deep breath, step back and think about your proposal and I am certain that while it does have merit, it is not the panacea you envisage it to be.

Perhaps, but there are instances when statistics are not necessarily reflective of reality.
I for one never have the scores turned on and would venture to guess that I am not alone in that category. Would we ask people like myself, self report this anomaly, or would we simply work on the assumption that the number of individuals opting out is so insignificant as to have no bearing on the end results.

Limiting entries to a fixed number and forbidding re-editing images once submitted is a recipe for mediocre entries at the expense of carefully thought-out and meticulously processed submissions. It also penalizes those with active working lives and/or families, who may have severely limited photographic opportunities. I don't think it is a good idea at all. It would be GREAT for me (I am retired and live in a beautiful landscape) but it wouldn't be fair to people like, say, nshapiro, whose work requires a LOT of forethought and preparation to accomplish.
