To be reasonable, don't tell me you wouldn't DNMC and vote down when there is a challenge called "RED" (description: The colour red or a red coloured object must be the main subject of your photograph) and someone enters something that has NO red in it ANYWHERE (let's say the entire frame is filled with nothing but "BLUE" but it is obviously a photograph) but the title says, "LACKING RED".

Imagine that someone entered that shot into that challenge... WHAT DO YOU DO??

Do not sit there and tell me that you wouldn't vote that shot down because it doesn't meet the CHALLENGE.

This is not the type of "narrow thinking" people like myself object to. My question would be, for example, how would you vote a B/W portrait of the entertainer Red Skelton, where his red hair is "present in the image" but not discernable. Or a photo of one of those hot dogs known as "Red Hots" (a tradition and old baseball parks). The subject would be "red" even though there might be no red pixels.

I'm not saying you might not LIKE that interpretation, and vote lower because of that, but I don't think it's quite fair to say that it simply DNMC and give it a one.

I'm not sure I agree with that, LOL. If the topic is simply "green" with no challenge details, then I'd agree a picture of a wad of dollar bills in B/W meets the challenge. But if the description says "show us the color green", then I don't think any B/W image meets the challenge, period.

But really, more and more I am starting to think along the lines of "Who cares?" :-)

I have to agree. On the backlit challenge, there were a number of entries that while not totally silhouetted were dark enough to conjure up the term in my head. What bugs me though is when someone feels it is necessary to correct my interpretation of how their image meets the challenge. Your job is to send your message to me. Your tools are a photograph and a title. That's it. If you need to e-mail a treatise on what silhouette (or whatever) actually means? Guess what? The message wasn't clear. And if I don't get it? Then chances are others don't get it.

When a picture really does DNMC then the voters will knock it down a notch or two. If a couple people don't get it? One or two low votes won't really hurt it.

The point: Vote YOUR way. Keep it consistent. Everything will work out in the end.

I never used to care
It wouldn't cross my mind
You'd be surprised -- the things I notice now
