Why you just proved my point!
When I go buy a car I am purchasing many things. Aesthetic (Composition), Color (Tonal Range), Performance (WOW factor) but most of all SPACE. I am buying the negative space in which to put myself. Just like in this challenge the extra space is for me and my enjoyment of the image. Just like with the car I am buying the space is what gives me comfort and a place to think about what I am seeing out the windshield. The image...

My statement about the car was a metaphor.
I answered, in my last post, literally according to the discussion of photography.

This thread is frickin hilarious! Kind of makes you wonder what people must think of this place if they stop by for a visit, consider joining, or have recently become part of the DPC community?
Carry on.
Probably should save some of that popcorn for the inevitable "Is motion blur considered speed"..."The background must be blurred, or the (subject) can't possibly be speeding", ...etc. Or, "what does working really mean"..."a net isn't a physical net is it?"..."the challenge description said person or object", ...etc.
Amazing place this is. :P |

So, assuming the description of the challenges is by interpretation, if I would have put a telephone poll in the wings challenge, would that be ok assuming that was my interpretation of wings? That means I should not recieve a score less than 4, correct? |

Entries are submitted subject to the SUBMITTER'S interpretation. Votes are cast based on the VOTER'S intepretation. It's as simple as that. Submit a telephone pole to the wings challenge and I, as a voter, would give it a 2 (if it was a really good pic of a pole), but I guarantee you would get some 7's, 8's, 9's and maybe a ten. |

If people really wanted to focus on just the car, the dealer would put your face 12 inches from the hood to eliminate any background distractions, but nobody would buy a car that way. The buyer wants to see what they're getting, and dealerships go to a lot of trouble build a showrooms for proper presentation... including a nice background. A quick scan of top entries for past Fill the Frame challenges should demonstrate that not all background has to be eliminated. |

Is it Monday already? The smell of popcorn and big mouths is really giving this thread a "ranty" smell. gotta love DPC Monday threads. They are so full of hope, optimism and community. I think I see a motivational poster entry here. :P |

Motivating people to jump off ledges or to beat other people senseless might not be such a hot idea for an entry. ;-) |

OK, now that we are all educated in Frame-Filling 101, have we studied enough to go to Frame-Filling 201? I am tired of this freshman class and need to move on. (Going back to the bar now!)

...Speaking of motivational posters, for those that are "splitting hairs" over the "Fill the Frame" challenge description, you are all losers! Here's a de-motivational poster for you all! ;-)
