So yesterday I went to the Kentucky State Fair here in Louisville and was very pleased to find out that I won the blue ribbon in the Monochrome Animals category and the same photo won the Vincent Hensley Memorial Award for Best Black and White Photo. I also won Fourth place in the Kentucky Name Place category, but that is not the subject of this story.

Today the State Fair called me to inform me that some cheapskate stole my 16x20 blue ribbon photo (with the ribbons attached).

I guess it's nice to know that of all the photos at the state fair, mine was worth the risk of getting caught stealing.

That's too bad... but there might be a silver lining. This sounds like a good oppurtunity to get yourself on one of the local news stations and have them interview you and show the picture that was stolen. Think of the coverage you could get over this as a human interest story. Plus, you never know, someone might see your picture and turn the guy in.

First, gotta say sorry for getting ripped off. And high praise for winning 2 and ribboning in one at the fair. Way to go.

The main reason I am writing now though is that it just seemed apropos that the first person to reply to the winner of the Monochrome Animals category would be MikeJ who just happens to have a black&white silhouette of a pooch as his avatar.

Once again, Congrats on the wins. And also thanks to Mikey for the chuckle! And yes... I do need to get a life!

How flattering. But at least you can have the photo reprinted. Just be glad it wasn't a pinting or drawing, or some other one of kind.

And congrats on the blue.

This is true, I can have the photo reprinted easily. I just hope the state fair will give me replacement ribbons. It's the first contest I've ever won, so I would like some sort of physical token to remember it by.

If it was stolen from the fairgrounds exhibit they probably owe you the cost of reprinting (and re-framing if applicable) as well, morally if not legally.
