I am seriously considering this camera...

Will prices come down within the first few months after it is released or will prices pretty much be the $1299 for a while?

Do you think there will be a fall rebate with this camera?

I'd like to buy it when it comes out but if it will be cheaper in a few months, I'll wait.

What do you think?

Sweet, me too

Probably not, but expect the 30D price to drop more.

Also probably not, it's brand new and will fly off the shelves anyway. Why offer a rebate?

If you want it, preorder one now. Otherwise expect to wait.

I kind of doubt there would be an immediate price reduction or a rebate.

I think these strategies are used on current models to move product prior to the release of the upgrades.

Depending on how sales go (I see back orders in the future) there may be a rebate in the spring.

Just my take on the situation.

If you want it get it. I doubt prices will drop on it much in the next few months. People were waiting for a decent upgrade in this class and they got it. You can bet Canon will milk every dollar out of it. If you want the latest and greatest you gotta pay for it.

Check the fine print:

The JPEG was converted from RAW (Noise Reduction : ON) using RAW Image Task.

Ritzcamera.com is the only online retailer that is offering the "Bill Me Later" option with the pre-order.

I NEVER buy anything from them but no sales tax, no shipping, no interest for 6 months...same price as Amazon.

I don't think that they are an authorized Canon reseller plus I am irked that the sales reps are in India.

Maybe I will wait until B&H has it on their website.

RAW Image Task is part of Canons ZoomBrowser software that comes with cameras.

Well, Onecall.com was the same price as the rest and 12 months no interest financing. Can't beat that! I just don't really need it...I just WANT it!!

If you really, really need some kind of improvement of your photography hardware, buy a really awesome lens. Professional photographers have said it for years; the camera just holds the lens.

I don't really need an awesome lens...I kinda have what I like.

You don't need a camera either. That's what you said...but if you're gonna buy something, get a lens. Lens will improve image quality more than a new body will in most situations.

I just pre-ordered and paid. No reason to wait after I saw the gallery of 40D pics on DPReview.....

Waiting now for taking her in my hands and stroke her innermost soul to satisfy my primative needs..... waiting to touch her body, feel her curves and couple her to my big one, 100mm if small 400mm fully extended ..... waiting to press the right buttons and listen to her rapid response as she produces what pleases me...

Yip, I can not wait. Expected date of availability first week of September.
