Hey everyone, just wanted to give an update as to where I am at (prompted by Brian...thanks!). I had my back surgery on July 31st...so, I am about three weeks out. I'm not allowed to carry anything more than ten pounds for another month...that includes my camera backpack! Walking is my biggest challenge right now...but, it improves daily. So, I actually can't predict where it will be in October. I know it will be better...I just don't know how much better.
You don't know how much I want to make this GTG...I feel like my whole summer has been a waste. I am very fortunate to have a studio in my basement...or I wouldn't have been able to participate here for the past four months. If you look at my profile...four out of my top five are studio shots now...I really need a big outing!!
So...all I can tell you at this point is...the heart is willing!

So are we all good with Oct 6th? Meet in the morning perhaps Mayville or Horicon and work from there? Set up ETA of each location change for optional meeting times.
One thing I would like to do if anyone else is interested is go to Port Washington for a Sunrise shot. perhaps that morning a group of us could meet there, then head out to horicon soon after we get some shots.
So far we have
Bugzeye
Strangeghost
SamDoe1
Lets get this thread going.
Bump it when you can, so everyone has a decent chance to see it.
Also if you want, set the thread options to email replies so you are kept in the loop.

I'm usually the first one to say gung-ho to a sunrise expedition, but I'm not positive I'd make it for this one. It's well beyond the marsh destination. Still, if others are really up for it as the time gets nearer, I may reconsider. |

It is about another 45 minutes past horicon for me. If you were willing to get as far as horicon and park I could stop and pick you up there would cut some the drive time off for you, Still gotta get up before the rooster though.

If anyone is interested, There is a Balloon Fest going on in Wisconsin Rapids this weekend. They have a morning liftoff tomorrow at 730 AM aprox 20 balloons if weather holds. I might take a drive up there early tomorrow. If anyone by chance plans on going, let me know via PM. We'll see if we can hook up.
If anyone has first hand knowlege of this festival please feel free to pass it along. I will be totally winging it otherwise.

Well, that would account for why I was seeing balloons around here recently...that and there was a bunch here for EAA.
Looks like I'm out again for Oct. 6...we cancelled our vacation to Copper Harbor, MI that was supposed to be this weekend...due to my back. Hubby decided to take time off between Oct.6-13...so, we rescheduled our family vacation for then. Hopefully, I will come home with some great shots from Copper Harbor!
Have a wonderful time...and I promise I'm there for the next one!

I had fun this morning. Was a long drive for an hours worth of standing around. But I got some cool photos so I am pleased. Even made it home with time to spare so now I am resting up before I go out shooting again.
I will not be posting any shots til later tonight or perhaps even tomorrow. But I will throw a few up in here when I do.
Glad you guys could make it.
Brian
PS how was breakfast?

I got together with Ironworker last night and we were talking about Oct. 6. It turns out that we both have something that's come up for that day that make our participation a little in question. Anybody interested in reconsidering for Oct 7 (Sunday)? |

If you are talking about the 7th, I would have from Sunrise until around 11AM then I would have to start heading home.
Anyone care to take a guess as to when we will have near peak colors somewhere in the state? I hate to say this but I seen 2 trees already turned orange this weekend. Kind of a bummer really. I am not in any way ready for winter.

The trees are changing color due to stress, ie. not enough water, combined with the heat, or too much water in the SW corner of the state. Most won't change until after the first frost, which maybe in Superior area as early as next week. Generally around here in early to mid October we see the colors change. I think the weekend of the 6 & 7 should be good. Still supposed to work the 6th though.

Much of northern & western Wisconsin received a killing frost yesterday morning. That will start the fall color season a bit earlier than usual. (Our average first frost here is Sept. 23) BUMP
