I will be on Kauai from August 19-29 and am asking for any "must visit and shoot" locations. I am aware of much of the beauty of the island, but can anyone offer any secret places for me to trek?

Mahalo!

Take the helicopter tour and get a window seat on a copter with a window that opens.

And wrap your camera's neck strap tightly around your wrist!

Lived there and built a home there last year. Go to north shore very end of island and shoot beaches, caves. Ask anyone on island you meet where they think you should go they all have that aloha spirit. psart

Go to the Napali coast, Must take the helicopter ride if you can afford it.

Also check out the Botanical Gardens (even thought its a bit rushed), Queen's Bath. Take a boat tour of the Napali coast, however, I suggest you take it in the late afternoon. We did it in the early morning and the sun was against me.

Also check out canyon, I keep forgetting what its called, but its beautiful. Take a nice telephoto lense, there are alot of chicken photo ops lol

The north side is very scenic as mentioned before me. There is a book called "The ultimeate Kauai Guidbook" It will be the best 15 dollar investment you will have for Kauai. It tells you all the secret places to go take photos and such. Kauai is awesome. I hope you enjoy your stay. :)

I think that's Waimea Canyon you are thinking of. There are also stunning views from some of the trails in Kokee State Park, which is at the top of Waimea Canoyn Drive. I brought a mountain bike there some years ago, only to discover that long sections aren't even close to being bikeable. But the views made carrying the bike a few miles well worth it.

Hi Tommy,
I went to Kauai a few years ago and the only thing i regret is not having my Rebel XTi with me. Check out the places listed below that I did. Google them or ask the people on the island to find out some of their secret locations ;)

1. Opaekka Falls
2. Poipu Beach
3. Tunnels Beach
4. The Hyatt Hotel (beautiful views and hotel grounds)
5. Waimea Canyon
6. Kipu Falls (Beautiful hidden falls..can jump in the water and climb back up via tree vines)

These are just some of the places i went to that were awesome...definitely go to as much as the island as you can. Kauai is one of the most beautiful, serene places that I have ever been to. Make sure you post plenty of photos and have fun!!!

Take a walk on the trail along the Napali Coast (you start at Ke'e beach). This picture (from the Best of 2002 challenge) was taken along that trail

Further along the trail is a waterfall and other cool sights.

Hey! I will be going August 27 through August 31! If you have internet access and see this, post some of the places you really liked shooting! If you want to try to do a short GTG on one of your last days, let me know!
