Alright, we are now challenged to fill the frame with nothing but the subject. Macro's anyone? Larger-than-life, still life shots? Abstracts? Hmm...
Here are the past "Fill the Frame" challenges:
Fill the Frame (from 2003) "Classic" editing rules (similar to today's "Basic" rules)
Fill the Frame II (from this past January) "Expert" editing rules on this one
The current ruleset is "Advanced" editing.

Sometimes the challenges test your technicals. This is one of those times. ;) |

Yeah great...and I just finished a shoot 3 hours before rollover...and that was 90% fill the frame images. Thanks Langdon.

Wish this one were under the minimal ruleset, which would have challenged us to really fill the frame while shooting ... its a lot easier when you can crop to fill the frame, as under advanced.
'bout time for another minimal challenge I'd say.
edit for dyslexic grammar ;>P

HEE HEE - I hate minimal editing. But I like the creative part of advanced myself. Just personal taste.
I'm in... (so far, until I reconsider and pull my entry) ha

In the 'Fill the Frame II' challenge, the 4th place was removed.
Why weren't the other shots moved up one place? |

Probably because my 6th place shot would then become 5th...which means they would need to verify it. They can...but I somehow doubt they would want to stare at that sight for too long...lmao!!

"Compose your photograph so that nothing but your subject is in the frame".
Sorry to sound dumb - I want to be fully clear on this. Whatever you shoot - that and that alone has to be in the frame.... on its own. Right?

Look at the past challenge. I think 'fill the frame' really means 'one subject pretty big in the frame'. |

Seems to me that a good half of the entries don't fill the frame. I don't see how they can all score less than my 5, so I guess the challenge description is to be ignored. |

I didn't even think of entering this one but now realize that it would have been a great opportunity to brush off the ole Fisheye...
This dude would have worked also, I suppose?

I agree with raish - a lot of entries don't fully fill the frame. It will probably hurt the notes given to those of us who did since it is a lot easier to compose a nice shot when you don,t have to fill the frame with the subject. I really stuck to the theme so I think I might not get a good result on this one. |

I agree. Look at the dog a couple of messages up from this one. Although it doesn't fill the frame, I think it is just right for the challenge.

Should I decide to vote on the current fill the frame challenge, which I more than likely will, I will most definately vote lower on shots with subjects that do not FILL THE FRAME. COMPLETELY. How much more description does one need? Just because a few shots in previous challenges did well and did not completely fill the frame, does not make it meet the challenge. I truly dont understand the confusion. If the shot does not completely fill the frame, then isn't it really just an ordinary shot that could fit into say the "Center your subject" challenge or the "Sorta fill the frame" challenge? The reason a challenge like this one is cool is BECAUSE it is a bit more difficult to execute well and originally. Like someone said earlier, why even have a challenge if the rules dont matter?
PS: I dont have an entry in this challenge, but if I did, I would have filled the stupid frame! :)

That's true but even if you crop or didn't crop and you only included a single cell in the photo many voters will still think it's DNMC because they haven't a clue to what fill the frame means.

Ouch!
Where does it say "completely" in the description?
I'm not in the Challenge and I'm not voting but I didn't take it as a 100% fill the frame kinda thang. I could be wrong...

Relax. The English language is not so much defined as guided by common usage. Yer common usage here is demonstrated by the entries :) |

"Compose your photograph so that nothing but your subject is in the frame." Not trying to be all mean or anything, just my opinion.
I mainly posted here because I was reading the scores thread with all of their moaning about how to vote the challenge and thought that my little "outburst" would fit somewhere else better.
Pawdrix: I think your shots that you posted for examples earlier in this thread are wonderful, but... When I think of filling the frame, I think of something else.
Maybe I'm just ca-razy! :)
