I'm seeing the top entries of the rural landscape challenge as over-saturated. This is not to slight any of these images but I've been have some issues with my monitor and want to know if i have it fixed. Does anyone else see this? thanks |

Uhh, well for my entry it was beautifully colored as it was but then knowing full-well what audience would be looking at it you bet I smashed the saturation as far to the right as I could w/o getting artifacts. |

To me, oversaturation only occurs when pixelation occurs. But I do love my colors. On my shot I will agree the cyans are slightly oversaturated, but luckily they only command a very small part of the picture (the roofs).

They look very saturated, but I don't see any artifacts/pixelation in them. Not sure what it is you think is broken on your monitor. |

Tough call, but if you think they're all over-saturated, I'd suspect my monitor 'cause the rest of the voters sure seem to think they're okay.
I definitely do *NOT* think the first and second place entries are oversaturated.......if anything, muted somewhat.

I just looked at your portfolio and now just think you're whiny!
Your scores are terrific and so is your work.
BTW, I also have Poms & cats and that shot is to die for!
Shaddup, already!......8>)

thanks,
my monitor is new and i thought it was adjusted ok, but i recently visited my sister who is a graphic artist and on her computer my stuff looked pale, and now i'm not sure. I figured i'd try to get some imput from dpc people and that should settle it. ;-) |

Hi brian I think your work is great! I have pm you on a question I had.
Is it not possible that your sister has her monitor adjusted slightly brighter for graphic design? |

The ribbons winners, not so much (although they do have strong colors), but there are many entries (inlcuding mine) that are hyper-saturated. I admit to doing it intentionally, because of comments/voting I have seen in other challenges - "Nice colors" when I thought it looked like a badly printed postcard on one for example.
So you may be confused about your monitor because some are so saturated (and getting good comments). |

Okay.....now I'm intrigued 'cause when I took my daughter out and cut her loose in Staples for school supplies, I went over to the computers and checked up on my entry, and I used a laptop and an HP brilliant monitor to look at it and the laptop looked too flat and the HP screen looked.....well, brilliant!
So......since this is an item of discussion, what do you think of this one?
I intentionally made it as rich as I could without having it what *I* would consider over-saturated, but I do have an LCD monitor and some days I wonder.
It's a PB and I truly like it so if you get critical, I'll just write you off, (JK) but I'm curious now.

Looks perfect to me, Jeb.
And doc, I thought your greens were uncharacteristically taking the back seat. ;)
Edit: To the OP, I would call the colors very rich, and I think it's expected in Landscape photography. However, I'm still surprised sometimes at the richness right out of the camera, so you can't be too quick to judge.

Just when you think I'm gonna zig...I zag!
Ya, I should have made that shot greener. I would have done it in advanced. ;) The problem is, to make greens greener you actually shift the yellows and in basic that would have shifted the sunset as well, which would not have been so pretty. |

Jeb:
Nope - I don't think yours is oversaturated. I quite liked it - gave you an 8.
Mine is much worse, lol. And I've seen some in other challenges, too. Usually landscapes, but always unnatual looking, and often scoring much higher overall than I would give. |
