I just finished assembly of my new wildlife photography setup. The system consists of: a Nikon CP8800 which has an 8mp sensor, image stabilizarion and ISO range of 50-400; a Hewlett-Packard 2X laser beam expander,used in this case as a 2X tele-extender with a 120mm clear aperture; A gimbal mount sturdy enough to support the gear and provide rapid target acquisition is made of aluminum. Total weight is about 6 pounds. Net maximum focal length is 700mm. The light 'gain' of the tele-extender is one full stop as opposed to the light loss of most tele-extenders. Photos of the setup:

Hope you have a local group of sherpas to help you lug it around.
On the upside, it looks like you could easily knock a charging grizzly unconscious! |

| The setup is bulky and it is heavy, not something you want to carry on an extended hike! I am considering a small two wheel cart, like a golf cart to take the load. Hope to try this out next week at "Wildlife West" nature park which is only three miles from my house. |

As far as long range gear goes, 6 lbs is not bad. A 20D with a battery grip and a 100-400mm is over 5 lbs. |

| Looks rather bulky but at a wildlife park it shouldn't be too difficult to handle. In the field I'd recommend putting it in a backpack and keeping a light, fast shooting lens on, then change to that once you are in a blind or shooting bedded animals. |

| Looks quite interesting. I've been shooting through my 80mm spotting scope with my Coolpix 990 for years. Shoot as fast as you can. Any twitch on a bird will cause a blurr. Let us see what ya come up with. Van |
