That there are several FREE photography magazines out there. While visiting with bergiekat last week, I realized there must be tons of new members to our site who don't know about these links to totally free and trustworthy industry magazines:

Range Finder (Free to U.S. & Canada)

 Studio Photography(Free to U.S. & Canada)

After Capture (Free to U.S. only)

(BTW - 'studio photography' is NOT just for those with a studio; plenty of good information in there... and its FREE people!!!)

Anyone who already gets these mags, let our friends know if you like them or not, k? I happen to enjoy all of them!

 Billy

(HINT - Just sign up as a pro & get it over with; none of the rest of us have been visited by secret agent men...yet! LOL)

ETA - How can I resist a 'please' from Judi! ;) (see her post below)

		I get Studio Photography.
Expect a ton of ads, even within articles, and everything is very product oriented.

Like in the middle of a paragraph they will throw in something about how much the NEW MAC BOOK CX %9592 PRO MODEL is the best thing ever or something.

You an get good tips though, but I would take the product reviews with a grain of salt, cause they are sponsors so its not so much unbiased. |

Thanks for the info on these. I was wondering if there were any other magazines that are worth the anual subscription. Most that I have seen cover the new hardware but are short on tips and tecniques.
Thanks ahead for any suggestions you may have. |

This is a very new magazine which I stumbled upon recently. It's very nice - high quality and extremely interesting.

 PhotoIcon

I don't know if it's readily available in North America, although I assume so, since pricing is in USD, even though it's a European publication. It has a heavy fine art bias and so far I haven't seen too many equipment reviews or photoshop tips and hints, which seem to make up the majority of photo mags these days. I liked it so much I subscribed.

ETA: The publisher is based in Portugal, although edtorial, distribution etc appears to based in UK. (Not relevant I know!)

Edit: Available in UK, US, Australia, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, New Zealand, Canada, etc. (Taken from the magazine itself). Actually, I bought it in Finland and that's not listed!

		| Cool - gotta post so that I can easily come back to this thread. =) (Makes me think we need some sort of thread-marking system, doesn't it?) |

Yeah. Wouldn't it be handy if there was an option to watch threads that appeared in that dropdown box at the top of each thread? Someone should get on that. ;) |

And maybe a link to the watched threads in the My Home menu... That'd be sweet! =) I don't use watched threads much. Maybe they should be more usable?

For the sake of posting on-topic, I've looked at Digital Photo Pro Magazine... It's ok, but I probably wouldn't pay for it. Their website gives you a peek into some pages of the issues - it's too small to read, but can catch your eye with the images. Lots of high-end ads - where they don't give you any specs or a price, just show you a sample image and the professional who took it, and assume you can guess the 4-5 figure price from there. |

Rangefinder came fairly quick after subscribing. I think it was only a few weeks. |

I seem to remember each of them taking anywhere from 3-6 weeks (depending on where your request falls in their printing / mailing cycle). Yes, they do have advertisements {some more than others} but that is a very small price to pay for receiving valuable industry information each month...

You are very welcome Judi - thank YOU for reminding me to think more internationally! |

		| Another photography oriented on-line magazine is The Digital Journalist that gives tremendous insight into the world of working photographic journalists. It's free and if you sign up, you get a reminder when the next issue is ready. (and that's all, no junk mail) I find it fascinating reading. |
