Cindi - remember...Roots and wings...

I hope the bummed feeling subsides soon. Don't forget, she will be back.

She will have laundry to do!

Looking forward to seeing your letters...

Hey, guys. I've fallen sadly behind and I plan to catch up.. thought I'd be able to this weekend.. but...

Savanah moved out today - off to college. Its been a busy week getting ready - then that horribly bummed feeling once its done... her room is vacant and I feel a little left behind. I'll get over it, its all about her now and she's thrilled...

Anyway, sorry about my absence, I'll be back in no time. :)

Here is my Alphabet

What are your thoughts? Do I have any weak letters that still need some work?

Now that I have mine done, I will go back and comment on the rest of the images in the side challenge

Peter, that is so cool! You should make that up into a poster. The only letter that I would suggest you redo is "R". Overall, though, this is fantastic!

Steve - Got any ideas for a good R? I am really in need of an improved one!

A street light might look like a lower-case r.
08/13/2007 05:05:35 PM · #134
Yeah, thought about that - but everything else I have is Uppercase. I'll keep looking. I really don't want to resort to having to 'create' a letter - the challenge to myself was to create it from existing objects in their actual location and then rotate, crop, flip, etc to get them.

Here is my completed Alphabet Poster.

I had a blast putting it together - taking the photos, looking for the shapes, playing around with PP, assembling the poster - all very cool and very much more than I had planned when I started.

I still would like some feedback on the poster - should I change the background? should I use frames around the letters? is the text okay?

Thanks for checking it out!

Peter

I have been trying to figure out how to make the collage. While I am not ready to make it, I thought it might be a good idea to fool around with some ideas...

I thought I would create a new file 800 x 600 and add layers...but how do you get the photo IN the file without it opening as a separate file?

...and YES, I am a dope at CS2. Picassa2 did a collage automatially, but it cut off some of the photos that were irregular in size and there was space between pics.

Here is how I did mine.

1. I opened a new blank file in PS and made the size of the blank file big enough to fit all my original sized images (each letter was typically around 640Hx 500W). The size of the entire file background layer was about 3400H x 5000W.

2. I then added a new layer and manually added the "A" and moved it around to the correct location. I repeated this step with each additional letter - naming each layer by its letter in case I wanted to make changes later.each

3. I added a color to the background layer as well as text.

4. Once completed, I saved for web and made it the size I wanted (i.e. 800x600).

I hope this helps. It was quite easy and took about 30 minutes to do the whole thing.

good job on finishing the alphabet already!!!!!
I think i have 5 letters so far :-)

anyway, the poster looks good.

My feedback would be to maybe put a border round each letter, just to make it stand out more.
also, a drop shadow on each on would be a nice touch.

(you know that you can apply a drop shadow to, say, the "A" layer and then right click on the layer in the layer palette, choose "select layer style" and then highlight all the other layers and right click and choose "paste layer style")

Very Helpful! Thanks...some IMing with a friend really cleared things up. This will be great experience in working with layers

After a week off, taking images for challenges, (which arn't the best, except one that is doing well) and not seeing any letters antwhere in our travels.
We are off this afternoon, around a childrens playground, and also a popular beach, to find some of my missing letters.
We will also take a look in town as well, on the way home.
Hopefully I will find some, as some are just so hard to find.
I am still in this, and determined to finifh this.....

You have done so well, and you can come over to my place, and find some for me if you like.....

You have done your poster in a great format, and style, and you should be very proud.....
