So I keep bothering you guys with Photoshop questions because I'm still recovering from the migration from Paint Shop Pro.
PSP used to have a checkbox in the resample dialogue which said "resize all layers". Unchecking it allowed me to resample an individual layer, leaving the others untouched. Is there a way to do this in Photoshop? The Free Transform tool doesn't suit my needs, because in actions, PS saves the values I enter as % instead of px. Transform also doesn't let me choose which resize method I want. |

By "resampling" you mean to a different size or a different ppi? If the former, you can drag the layer to a new, empty document, resample, and paste it back to the original document. I don't think PS has the ability to resample individual layers within a complex document.

| Yes I mean a different size, i.e. a different number of pixels. It would be disappointing to hear that Photoshop can't do this. |

Yes, kind of. I'm trying to create an action which takes two open images with the same aspect ratio (2:3, portrait mode), and put them nect to each other, in different layers, in a 720x480 landscape image.

What px size are the two different images? |

| Different sizes, 2153x3233 and 2311x3471. I'll be applying the script to images with different sizes, which is why the transform tool's percentage value won't work. They keep the same aspect ratio though. |

You could try creating a template with two areas masked out for the images. When images are added to the template only the portion of the image within the mask area will show. Part of the process would be to resize the images to fit the masked area.
This is a very rudimentary description of the process but it may work with an action.

| Yeah, the problem with resizing the images before pasting them to the template is that the actions get messed up when I'm switching between the different images... |

With the process I suggested you wouldn't need to resize before pasting. You adjust the size after. I've never tried setting up an action for this so don't know how difficult it would be. |

Photoshop will DO IT FOR YOU already. Go to File/Automate/Picture Package
create a document with the size you want (the Edit Layout button), adjust and create the sizes of the photos you want, set all the other sizes, color space and options, save it and then you can make an Action that will do it for you
EDIT: I can send you one I just made up. They get saved to PhotoshopCS3/Presets/Layouts. Lots of templates already there too.

| I'll have to try that tomorrow. Meanwhile, I've figured out a way for my specific action to work even though I resize the files in advance. By luck, I have to admit. |

Picture Package is easier and takes a few minutes to set up.
I have mde many different setups...IE: for business cards (using multiple files), etc. Quick and easy. Good Luck
