| I know there have been a ton of threads on this subject, but I'm never sure how up to date they are. So I'm asking again. What would be the best thing I could get as far as lighting goes for around $700? I will probably be using it mainly for portraits. If you need any other information to give me an educated response just ask. Thanks! |

There are lots of choices in this price range at your local (better ) camera store.
My first light kit was almost toy like. 2 strobe flashes and a main light which was a strobe in a soft box. Stands and umbrellas of course. I think my wife paid around 600 Canadian ... Twas my birthday present.
I suggest talking to a store guy for his/her opinions. Hope this helps
You have a nice portfolio BTW

| Thanks, unfortunately as far as I know there is not any photography shops very near here. So I was hoping someone could direct me to a reliable product on line. |

Also, if you want to go cheaper, but not necessarily cheaper in quality, check out Strobist. It is a great website, with a wealth of information. :)

Start here -
//www.amazon.com/Light-Science-Introduction-Photographic-Lighting/dp/0240808193
That'll teach you why.
Then go here -
//strobist.blogspot.com/
That'll give you ideas on how.
Then you'll have a better foundation when you ask for what.
As far as your $700 budget, you might get more out of it by going with used equipment. But it's hard to make any specific recommendations without knowing more about why you want lighting and what you're trying to do.
