I have an A70 and wanted to get some extra lenses for it. Kodak have a lens kit here in OZ for $265 with 2x tele, +7 & +10 macro and .75 wide angle. Awesome but has 37mm threads and I need 52mm.
Can anyone recommend using and adaptor or is this no good for some reason?
I would really like to know as Im taking a couple of weeks of works soon and might go on a trip somewhere.
Also..'What to look for in a tripod?'. Sounds simple but since Ive had nothing to do with em I might overlook something ridiculous.
Suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers in advance. |

As for tripods, NEVER get those el-cheapo antennae-type tripods. I bought one because it was very handy (conveniently retracts into the size of a folded umbrella). I used it for about a ...hmmm... a week. I suggest buying the light weight aluminiums that have stage clips. They are so much easier to retract, and wouldn't get as easily bent as the antenna type.

I think putting 37mm threaded lenses on a 52mm camera using adapters would limit the amount of light going into the camera. The camera was designed for a 52mm opening for light to enter the camera. Putting 37mm lenses on it would close down the opening quite a bit. It might work but you will definitely end up with longer exposures.

OK, um, its not 52mm opening. It has a bayonet that steps up to 52mm thread. The base of the bayonet is maybe 10mm less than that. The opening is probably not too much bigger than the kodak camera the kit goes on? |

Canon's LA-DC52C is the adapter that fits the camera. From that, Quantaray has a wide range of filters, and a couple tele and wide lenses. At Inkley's, I got the adapter, a close-up set (+1, +2, +4 stackable), a multi-coated UV lens, and a cross screen for under $70. (They had a buy two, get a third free thing going.)
Hope I've helped. |

I've got the standard Canon LA-DC52C adapter for my A70 and the Canon telephoto lense.
With the camera fully zoomed out, you get a HUGE amount of vignette. I'm talking about 40% of the frame vertically (20% either side of the circular picture).
This isn't too bad, as most of the time you want to use the camera's zoom too, to increase the total telephoto.
With a 37mm lense, I'd imagine it's pretty much useless on an A70. You're probably making upwards of 60-70% of the image black, with a very small circle of photo in the middle.
If the $265 you're talking about is US, I'd be tempted to go for the standard three Canon lenses. Sounds like Maranelloboy got a pretty good deal too. |

I got the adaptor and a couple of filters already. The price for this set is $265 aussie. The canon tele alone is $215 aussie?? What the.
Thats why I am keen to make this work. I wouldnt mind a close up set. Hell I want it all but it all costs way too much. I guess it costs more to manufacture at 52mm instead of 37mm.
I have held the wide angle in front of the lens but i think it had black corners, might try again tomorrow. The 37mm macros +10 and +7 worked a treat held in front of the lens from a quick test.
Maybe you get what you pay for tho. May just have to bite the bullet and fork out for the canon stuff. |

Hi BLEE
I`ve an a40 and use the Canon 2.4 Tele and as PaulMdx said there is a lot of vignetting at the lower end of the tele.
Take a look Here it`s the Canon Powershot A-series User Group, there is plenty of info on there, search for teleconverter.
hope this helps.

thanks guys. Yea found a bit of info at that forum. Cant register tho cpz I only have a hotmail email. Anyway my main concern is the cost of the official canon goods here in OZ. I paid $750 for my A70 with a 128MB card set of 4 NiMH and a charger. Thats a bloody bargain over here. The camera retails for $700 alone.
So basically I am looking for alternatives.
Was hoping the 37mm would be one but I dont thinks so now. |
