Hey Brian,

June 30th presents the best opportunity of the summer for my "moonrise" series of shots with the WI capitol dome as a foreground object of interest. 9:30 pm is the critical time:

The moon is truly full and its rising point should make it appear to emerge from directly behind the dome. I'd love to have some company for the shot, but if you get any captures better than mine, I might have to kill you and destroy the evidence.

I wish I could make it, but we leave for Ohio the next morning. And I get home that afternoon, somehow I doubt my wife would understand.

I think July will be booked for most everyone, August is probably the best bet, Then maybe another one in mid Oct for the colors.

Where are all the Daves hiding ?

Thought this could use a bump.

Second weekend in August is not good for me. Otherwise I have a pretty clean slate the rest of the summer.

Wouldn't hurt to start tossing some ideas around for a fall color shoot as well. Perhaps a road trip up to North Chicago, AKA Door County?

So what's going on here??

Is the cheeseman going to be there?

I for one have no idea. lol I thought everyone vanished. As you can see I bumped this a couple of times. But always during the day. I keep forgetting to give it a bump during prime time.

I have been looking for places to go and things to do.

Here are a few of them

Horicon (obvious)

State Fair Aug 2nd - 12th

Port Washington.

Madison for a night shoot.

A venture into the Kettle Moraine State Forest by Eagle. (anyone like riding mountain bikes?)

I will keep thinking of more. Keep tossing in ideas everyone.

I am free all but 2nd weekend in August, (family reunion) other than that I have an squeaky clean schedule.

A Weekend Bump.

Anybody like drag racing? A friend of mine races nostalgia class and will be at Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove Labor Day weekend. I was thinking about going to that.

That sounds like fun. I haven't been there for about 15 years, I used to work with a guy that had a 65 GTO that he used to run down there a few times a year, I went and watched a couple of times. Also went to Olympics of Drag Racing a few times.

Do they have any camera restrictions?

I know this is going to sound early...but, I am having back surgery on July 31st...so, I am kind of nixing any outing for me for the summer. But, I would love to start planning one for this Fall in Door County. I love it up there...I used to have a camper in Egg Harbor. I know a lot of really cool places to shoot. And by then, I should be ready to really get out and shoot! I don't know about anyone else...but, I think I may make a weekend of it.

My weekends this fall are pretty open...I only have plans for the weekend of October 6th.

Anyone else up for this?

I would definately be interested in a Door County Adventure. Only prob with planning the fall colors in advance is they may not be there yet or already be gone.

Hello, any ideas floating around out there?
08/13/2007 03:39:07 PM · #114
I dropped the ball on a couple of them didn't even think of the prospects until it was too late. Are you still going to Union Grove ? That could be interesting.

A fall GTG is definately in the mix but I think because of color and timing it will be planned fairly close to the date. Might have to make that one a road trip and drive til we find it. lol

I am waiting for a flyer we get every 3 months that is full of Activities through out the state I will see if anything cool is coming up.

There are some areas around LaCrosse that are pretty nice. We'd have to be careful though, because some of the good spots are west of the river. That'd make it a Minnesota GTG. Wouldn't want to do that!

Minnesota RULEZ!!! Anyway, I'll be back in Milwaukee next Saturday so I'm game for whatever as long as someone can drive me again... (not bringing car, $100/month for parking)

I confess to still wanting to do the Horicon Marsh. I say let's revive the idea before it gets too far into the fall and inclement weather.
08/14/2007 07:24:52 PM · #120
I will second that as long as we pick a day when it is not so muggy like it has been. That place would be a insect nightmare.

My wife and I have gone up to Lacross area for the fall colors a couple of times. one year we made the mistake of going up during october fest. took us 3 hours of driving around before we found hotel room but only after someone just called and canceled moments before we got there. must have tried 10 different places. Kind of busy up there that weekend.

not much to see when you get there but the trip up is eye candy for a photobug.

We could always aim for Horicon for the fall colors.

the best the marsh can offer is 21 shades of brown. i am game for 2 GTGs so however it works out will be fine.

Untrue. There is a good deal hardwood trees throughout the marsh. Fall colors abound for about a week & a half. Audobon days in Mayville would be a good time for pictures. Saturday October 6th sound good?

We really *should* do a Fall Color shoot (or two!). We'll need to watch the progression carefully. I know last year the "official" information really was behind a week.
I'm thinking that there is a good chance the peak will be early this Fall. The signs of an early fall are all over the place. I'm already seeing blackbirds flocking, and our weather pattern smacks more of early September than Mid-August.

Oct. 6 works for me right now (the following weekend doesn't). I'm liking the marsh and Audobon days sounds great.
