Me, too.....with two shots I had *NO* idea I would get and that I *REALLY* like which means I'll probably get spanked.

BUT......after being here awhile, I'm going to be happy with them anyway and delighted to have you see them when the challenges are over.

Yep - that describes my free study and fast food entries. In fact, putting that shot into fast food didn't even occur to me until I was editing my free study entry.

Jeb, this one's for you: mama, don't taaaaaaake my kooodachrome away!

Hey, Don: how many surrealists does it take to change a light bulb?

Hey, just wanted to mention that my Shadows entry has six comments....THREE OF THEM are from Team Suck members!

That makes me happy 'cause it means I'm hitting my target type of photographer/viewer.

Speaking of which......I'm going for a comment on my 48HR FS from Fearless Leader.

I'll be holdin' my breath; just ask for Blue......

LOL. I thought it was "a duck."

Shifting gears, remember when there was a thread noting large differences between avg. vote and that from commenters? Well, my Shadows shot only got 5 comments, but their avg. was 7.6, a difference of 2.1 above the overall average. That tells me I connected strongly with at least those folks. :)

My Shadows scored a 6.5 amongst commenters......three of whom were Suckmates!

My 48HR FS is at 5.8696 which is the best score I've had since early April.

I'm hoping it'll come up. My Rural makes me really happy.......I get a stupid grin every time I look at it. It just came out EXACTLY like I wanted it to......that *never* happens!!!

Self-fulfilling prophesy. After 25 votes -- ave. 4.64. But like Jeb said, I really like it and don't care too much about the score.

Funny thing is that I care more about the score for the ones I don't like much, and they almost always do better than the ones I like. So I win either way -- a good score or a good picture.

My speed free study is doing a lot better than expected. I'll not complain. :-) I have been shooting (the camera) here, so I'll try to get some more stuff stuck in my portfolio at some point. Uploading can be a bit of a challenge - have to do it from work and usually don't have a lot of time to do it. Oh, and there was at least one really good "boom!" today. Don't know where or what. Apparently it's not unusual and no one really even notices. Gotta love it!

hey, come glory in low scores in the low scoring free study side challenge!

Lowest score gets to pick something everyone else has to use in their next challenge entry.

That said, I'm not going to win.

In fast food, I'm hoping to get one of the lowest scores for a shot that's in focus, well exposed, and actually tells a story. :) Gotta love reading only the title and not the details. Welcome to DNMCville.

I'm back in the game!

It's been three months since my last entry, but now I'm back with a landscape. Testing the DPC waters again. I can't wait for the results :D

Actually had scores turned off today, but just turned them back on to see whether I should join Jeff's low scoring free study side challenge. Then decided it didn't matter what my score was and joined anyway.

Looking forward to Children's Toy being over (so my score can stop ever so slowly but steadily declining), and hoping to get a shot for rural that I have tried every day for the last four; over my right shoulder tonight at sunset, beautiful blue sky interspersed with light, fluffy clouds. Dead ahead (over my target) grey mushy soup. Yuck.

Will try again tomorrow, though am going to see what I can get during the day, harsh sunlight be damned!

Evelyn, since it looks like you're going with the xti, check compatibility with older lenses. Some people (I don't know you well enough to know if you're one yet) like to buy old manual focus glass and play around, especially as there is some very good old glass. The D40, or so I understand, won't even take non-"S" AF lenses, which seriously limits the eBay/flea market/auction approach to acquiring glass. I don't know about the xti, but I have a D50 that won't even do aperture priority with manual lenses on it, and I regularly find this annoying (though I'm happy to do manual settings, I would like the ability to rely on the camera sometimes). If you want to look at some old glass, try this one -- I have one of these for my Nikon (off of eBay for £24, about $40), but on the Nikon the distance from the flange to the sensor is wrong, and it won't focus to infinity; almost makes me want to buy a canon . . . almost :)

Purpleflutterby!!! Welcome back, can't wait to see your shots. How goes preparation for the move (or is that done already)? I'm nearby in east bumfu... oops, I mean Norwich :) We'll have to do an East Anglia GTG once you're settled (there are some other folks in the area, too).

Deb, great to see you're getting into the challenges; I hope it helps get through the day. Be careful in that little pickup, don't get runned over!!

To all, I had a great laugh catching up on this thread (I thought I read it yesterday, but I didn't; oops); I laughed out loud (which I needed). Thanks.

Good luck all who are in for various challenges!

Best,

Rob

Ooh, a GTG would be fun :) I've never been to one (what with being too far north), it'd be really cool to meet some DPCers in real life for the first time. Saying that, it'll have to wait a bit longer, I'm not starting till January. I figured that it'd be nice to have a bit of time off before jumping into a solid 3 years of work.

Hope the weather works for your rural shot! The downsides of living in Britain...

Btw, here's another couple of shots:

They'll be appearing here gradually as I edit them. Which may well take months...

Hi all,

Welcome back purple, they look like absolutely amazing pix!...

Deb, love the shot of you in THE CHAIR. Wow. And glad you're back in challenges too! Yay!

Evelyn, welcome to the jungle - oops, ie mean Team Suck - I think you'll like it here...and my brownie recipe, which I make available to all members of TS, is kicking around somewhere...Jeb may have it...if not, PM me and I'll send it to you or re-post it.

I do have an entry for Rural, but I forgot to resize it so must gallop home (actually on my bike this evening) and re-submit...dang! Knew I forgot to do something!

And finally, broke up with my b/f of nearly a year, whom you can see in my entry for Hate. Maybe I'll just stay single for awhile.

Ok should go vote and comment now!

I'm starting from scratch on an SLR camera so lenses are only an issue of finances at this point. The challenge for me will be to learn how to use the camera so I think I will try just the kit lense and maybe one other for doing very close up macros. Thanks for the advice :)
