Yes, yes, I know, I should have backed up. Silly me. I've been working on computers for years and never had a hardrive crash so I suppose I became a little complacent. I'm paying the price though, I have lost the original for every single photo that I've taken since January this year. I felt like crying but it's too late for tears. Now I have a question, is it possible to retrieve copies of the photos I have on my profile? I know they are low res versions but I would like to keep a record of them anyway. Can this be done?
I now heed these words of wisdom.....BACK UP! BACK UP! BACK UP! AND DON'T THINK IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO YOU! (Damn, wish I had listened to that before but you know what they say, you always learn lessons the hard way!) |

It might be possible to recover the data if you send the drive in, someone else on the forum might also know a few tricks.
You can save any image on the site by right-clicking on it and choosing 'Save Image As...' |

| A bad break Trinity, though surely a self-inflicted wound, as you know. Hard drives are so affordable that nobody should be without a backup drive sitting beside their main machine, running backup utilities at least 1X week. I've been meaning to get a second one and rotate the two units, keeping one at my office and swapping them every other week, but haven't done this yet. |

| There is yet hope... they'll charge you a fair bit but send it to a computer repair place and they should be able to recover the data for you... but like I said it'll cost. |

| yeah i have every single photo backed up on 2 different harddrives and on cds....i had a little issue where my computer crashed but my harddrive was still intact but i didnt find that out for a while so i got a more friendly scare |

Well it's not hopeless, you should first try to recover data on your own with recovery software that is available on the net.
My Hard drive also crashed about a month ago and with it I lost about 6000 photos, so from now on I always make backup-s on a external disk.

| Sadly, I have already tried to the recovery route, doing it myself as well as paying someone to try. Both options failed and I had to do a 'hard recover' with an HP technician. It might be a case of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted, but I have already bought an external hardrive and a mountain of cd's to backup in every way possible. Thank you all for your advise. It's at least a comfort to know that I can still keep copies of the pics in my profile. Oh well, lesson learnt! |

| I lost everything on a 120GB drive about 3 and a half years ago. Drive was fine but all the data was gone. The only good thing that came from it is that I now back my stuff up pretty compulsively. I make a copy of all my 'keepers' onto my USB flashdisk before I format the camera's card. |
