I'm really glad to see that the folks that entered the Monuments challenged used this opportunity to do some commentary.

Part of trying to be a photographer to me is to use the medium to get people thinking.

I've been frustrated with a lot of the challenges I've viewed that have been so overwhelmingly basic.. There are always a lot of really fantastic shots... but rarely are there any that really make a statement.

Guess I'm just an old hippie politico that still wants the world to be a better place. What ever your take on that is.

I agree, it's so nice to see a few that dared to make a statement and dig a bit deeper than the obvious. It's hard to do well here while being subtile, but it happens. There are so many intelligent people here, let's start taking some chances. (I'll start right after I win a blue ribbon) : )

I hear ya... I think that I probably shouldn't wait though... could be a long time before I place.

Am I missing something? I know I'm a newb... but I can't see/vote on any of the Monuments submissions yet. So where did you see them?

After all, it must take a lot of courage to stand up in a coffeehouse or college auditorium, and sing about peace, and justice, and brotherhood, and all the other things the audience is against.
