I've pm'd escapetooz, but she is currently not on line. I've got an interview with them tomorrow and was looking for some advice on what they are looking for. They are offing paid training and equipment. This is a seasonal job. Should I take samples of my work? I've asked them a couple times, but they haven't answered that question. All my contact with them so far has been by email. I'm figuring this will be good experience.

UPDATE: I got the job! I start training August 20th. I guess I can call myself a photographer now!

i have never worked for them, but know people around here that do, and if you have the opportunity to do what they do, this could be a great launchpad...

but, you really have to jump in and make the absolute most of it. as it is an entry-level excursion into professional photography, it will be up to you as to how much you get out of it. sadly, the guys i know doing this stuff treat it like a job, only doing what they have to; i have a feeling that if they pushed themselves a bit harder, they could be out on their own, writing their own ticket.

for the most part, they shoot high school stuff--sports, events, groups, portraits, etc. they have the access and equipment to do it all--and, once you have the experience, you have everything you need. i don't know what kind of pay is involved, but i've been running into the same guys on the sidelines for years, so it has to be enough to keep them interested. at the very least, you'll get a good taste of what it can be like.

good luck!

I worked for them in 1995 or 1996 in Colorado. We did church directories and I was responsible for sales. At that time it was film and the photographer was responsible for the equipment. They gave her a ton of stuff, including a medium format camera, that she had to lug around from place to place. All training was provided and I don't think they were interested in her portfolio, just how big her van was;)

It was a lot of work and driving around, but I really enjoyed my part. Sales were very easy, and I made great money. The photographer I worked with wasn't cut out for it, and quit after a few weeks. She didn't have that special knack for getting the children to co-operate.

I'm sure it's changed a lot since then, but I hope that helps.

Thanks for your replies, and the PM Nick! I did print 6 8x10's to take just in case. The money isn't much to start, but I'm looking more for the experience (and using pro equipment) to hopefully make a go for myself after a couple years. Wish me luck!

Kelli,

I would love to know about this. I actually put an application in over a week ago. Any insight you could give me would be great!

Thanks,

Julie

I have an interview with them Thursday, and was also looking for some advice.

It's always hard to know what to expect when going in for that interview -- and preparation can make all the difference.

What is the interview process like at Lifetouch?
Any advice on striking the right note? Interview questions?

Please and thank you,
Celena

The one where I went (I'm thinking it could be different in different locations) have a two interview policy. The first person I met was the photography manager. I took prints of portraits that I had done. We discussed them along with a book I had done with blurb.com. My suggestion to you would be show enthusiasm. I really wanted the job and I guess it showed. I was scheduled for the second interview on the spot for a couple days later. When I went to the second interview, which was with the location manager, I was offered the job. Hope this helps.

Good luck Celena!
