I was wondering if anyone has ever heard what happens when you consume 15-20 grams of Nutmeg. I've heard some wild things. Is that potentially bad for your health? I heard someone talking about it on the radio. Let me know what you guys think. I'm just curious...that is all. |

I heard 2 tbsp. Do a google search, apparently it gets you high, but its a slow slow slow "drug" - as in you wont get the full effect until a few hours after ingestion. |

Hmmm, nothing about it at snopes.com
My first impression is that it sounds like a bad idea. Nothing to back that up, however. |

According to Wikipedia 5-20g will get you high. It does have some unpleasant side-effects though. |

Sounds very pleasant;
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutmeg#Risks_and_toxicity
"Large doses of 30 g (~6 teaspoons) or more are dangerous, potentially inducing convulsions, palpitations, nausea, eventual dehydration, and generalized body pain BMJ. In amounts of 5ΓΆ€“20 g (~1-4 teaspoons) it is a mild to medium hallucinogen, producing visual distortions and a mild euphoria."
"Use of nutmeg as a recreational drug is unpopular due to its unpleasant taste and its side effects, including dizziness, flushes, dry mouth, accelerated heartbeat, temporary constipation, difficulty in urination, nausea, and panic. A user will not experience a peak until approximately six hours after ingestion, and effects can linger for up to three days afterwards."
"A risk in any large-quantity (over 25 g, ~5 teaspoons) ingestion of nutmeg is the onset of 'nutmeg poisoning', an acute psychiatric disorder marked by thought disorder, a sense of impending death, and agitation. Some cases have resulted in hospitalization." |

Well...I guess that explains why everyone is so happy at Christmas. |

I've heard of that before. There's apparently all sorts of ways to 'get high' without using illegal street drugs. But 'every action has an equal and opposite reaction'... |

OK, I'll play the dummy then...my mom told us to EAT our fruits and veggies, not smoke 'em, rofl! What does smoking banana peels do?

I've heard you had to dry them in the oven and then crush them and then smoke it. And then you 'get high'.
Never done it but that's what I heard in high school. |

Absolutely nothing, except perhaps give you a headache. It's one of the longest running jokes around. Telling young people how to extract "bannadine" and watching them do it used to be quite popular. I guess it isn't as common now. |

Now we tell them to drink a bottle of Robitussin and watch. Much more entertaining... |

Getting someone loaded on Dextromethorphan isn't my idea of funny but everyone's different.
EDIT: Spelling

I would never endorse that sort of thing to anyone. I would have in my 'wilder, untamed' days, but not as a responsible adult. It's an entirely bad idea. |
