I have recently bought myself a Dell 27 inch widescreen monitor with native resolution 1920x1200. This is a fantastic monitor, and I am mostly very pleased with it (there are some issues with artefacting darkened areas in some software applications).

However, as I found out with my latest challenge entry, the high resolution means that it is hard to see image noise:

I can see essentially no noise with my monitor, because the pixels are relatively small and so the image is effectively smoothed. On monitors with a lower resolution, the noise is more apparent.

Enlarging the image using zoom introduces pixelation that makes noise spotting very difficult in itself.

Does anyone have the same problem and/or have a recommendation on how to deal with this?

Thanks!
