LA cops would of just shot the camera and the photog, then asked questions later.

Excerpt:

"The Chicago Police Department is investigating allegations that an officer seized and damaged a Tribune photographer's cameras Monday night at the scene of a police-involved shooting that turned into an unruly public demonstration.

The Internal Affairs Division is investigating how Tribune staff photographer Terrence Antonio James' two Canon cameras were severely damaged while he was covering the fatal shooting of Aaron Harrison, 18, in the North Lawndale neighborhood at about 10 p.m., police spokeswoman Monique Bond said.

While James was taking photographs of officers entering a building in the 2900 block of West Roosevelt Road, from which bottles had been thrown at police and their vehicles, one officer allegedly ordered him to leave the scene. Standing on the public way, James said, he continued to take pictures and told the officer he was a working member of the news media.

At that point, the officer knocked one of his cameras to the pavement, destroying it, he said. The other was taken from him and thrown down the block, James said. Police later recovered the thrown camera about 30 feet away."

So, now that we're all connected to the link I suppose comments are in order...

Reprehensible behavior by someone hired to serve and protect! If this is typical, the police are misinformed and getting out of hand! I despise such restrictions on the freedom of the press and hope this case leads to public discussion and political reaction!

(Just my 2 cents and exclamations !!!)

Sooner or later every group of authority will get out of hand, there is rebellion, and some other group starts the process all over again.....that is if history repeats as it has in the past.

Surely, the actions of one rogue individual within an organization cannot be viewed as being representative of the totality of that body.

There is an ongoing investigation, and when the offending person is identified, the requisite disciplinary action will be meted out.

I think they do it because 'doing good things' is a cops job. Its what he is supposed to do.

Also, if you do something bad, it doesnt necessarily mean that, because you do good as well, you immune to the repercussions of a bad deed.

If i give lots of money to charity but i also beat my children, the fact that i beat my children would stick out more i think
