you are so right sheila, and that is why i told them to 'stop asking how much you should pay me'...

i told them that they were free to pay as little, or as much, as they like - there are times when i can NOT find it in my heart to tell people that i have to have money in order to do something for them, and this has been one of those times.

besides, i keep thinking 'how would i have felt when my mom dealt with cancer a couple years ago'. yes, very much my honor to attend their wedding....

hey brad - just wanted to let you know that I probably will be needing to learn more about producing slideshows... but that this one kinda needs to remain static (remember, the bride stays pretty sedate on painkillers these days). just wanted to say that the offer is really appreciated - and that i AM going to shoot the son getting married tonight too.

i'm leaving straight from work & rushing back to the other town. thanks to brad and leroy, the slideshow of the mother's wedding will be played during the reception of her youngest son's reception. Mom will get to watch her 'baby' getting married before she passes...

perfect timing sheila!

i JUST got off the phone with our 'contact' - the last few days were exhausting for the groom's mother (the cancer patient), so Glenda & I were not able to see her reaction.

today, their entire family sat down and viewed the slideshow together and they LOVED it!!! (apparently, the son's first question was 'how much does billy want to make one for us?')

Well, I got the call a little while ago... Miss Vicky passed away last night, only a couple hours after I finished uploading the images of her son's wedding. (Vicky is the sweet woman in the yellow dress, sitting on the porch.)

I don't know what to feel, or what to do (yet I'm stuck in a training class via computer @ work, and cannot leave). The family just asked me to provide photos from Vicky & James' wedding, for her memorial service, and that they need them by close of business today... but I don't have the files with me (how could I be so ignorant!). I've asked them to contact the person @ the funeral home that does the slideshow / DVD, and have that person call me for arrangements - guess all I can do is rush home, grab the digital files off the laptop, print the 8x10 photos, and rush to the funeral home tonight.

Anyway, sorry to ramble - I'm totally drained, yet grateful that this family has allowed me such a personal glimpse into their lives. I'm thankful that they appreciate the work I've done (and I could care less about any money for this job). I have a newfound appreciation for what it means to be a 'professional photographer' - the faith that a family places in us, and the joy that we can bring them with only a touch of humanity, and the click of our shutter...

I'm grateful to all my friends here @ DPC, who were jumped right in to help - thank you everyone. Just let me know if there is anything I can do to repay YOUR kindness.
