We bought my son a new bike, he was so proud of it he wanted to pose with it. It's a freestyle BMX to do al kinds of tricks with.
I wanted to play with the lighting and make a dark tough photo. So tell me what you think :-) |

BMX bikes rock and are indestructable!
I still have my original BMX in the shed, if I prep it it will be rideable again. Almost 25 years old. :)
Had so much fun on it, crazy jumps, a lot of abuse, fallen many times but the bike was always ready to go.
Good choice. :)
Good pic. :)

Yeah, the lighting is pretty cool.
That bike kind of looks like a tank.. you didn't buy it at Wal-mart or a similar department store, did you? Those bikes aren't even close to being suitable for actually doing tricks on, but he looks like the age where he'll just ride it around the neighborhood, leave it in the rain, push it down hills to see what happens, etc. If he really gets into riding, a real bike will be worlds better. |

No I got it at a proper bikeshop :-)
he's already learnt some pretty cool tricks. he can rotate the handlebars 180 whilst riding, the bunny hop, and ofcourse the ramps and grinding.
my other son skateboards a lot so they go out together to practice new tricks.

That is kind of a harsh thing to say about another person's child isn't it? Do you think maybe the OP has good enough parenting skills to instill the value of one's posessions in their own child?
Maybe you are just bitter from not having a parent nice enough to buy you a new bike of your own?
Sheese, this is supposed to be a happy moment for a child and parent and you want to sling mudd. Amazing.

don't worry about it. I have thick enough skin from being on the internet and forums to not be offended by such a comment. :-)
furthermore, wich parent buys their 9 year old an extremely expensive BMX for them to trash within a year, or to be thrown to the side because they decided they like soccer better? I know this is a good quality BMX to start off with. If he likes it and runs it down whithin a year then he's ready for a more expensive one.

I had a softbox on the left side, but very much to the side so that it would create large shadows but still light the eyes. And then I had a lamp right behind him (bottom / lower back height)no brollies or anything pointed down. He had to stand a certain way to stand in front of the legs of the tripod of the lamp. I did clone out one leg though. |

What are you talking about? Seriously. I wasn't slinging mud or making accusations about her kid, it's just a fact that kids do that to their bikes. There's nothing wrong with it at all...
I just asked if it was a 'real' bike because it's a common thing for parents to refuse to get their kids a nice bike, which puts them off riding when they could potentially really enjoy it. Of course there are kids who can kick butt on any bike, and move up later, but the majority can't ever do anything but ride flat and do a little wheelie because the bikes are half their weight and the geometry makes it almost impossible. Part of the problem with superstore bikes is that the employees throw them together as fast as they can and know almost nothing about bikes, so they're really not safe at all. I'm glad to hear that you got it at a real shop. |

You're forgetting the fact that we are Dutch. Riding bikes is in our blood ;-) from the moment we can walk, our parents buy us a kiddies bike with no pedals, then when we can do that properly they buy another bike with trainer wheels beside it. Remember at that point the child is maybe 3 years old. At 4 it can ride a bike no problem at all, riding alongside mom and dad in the city, countryside etc. From that point on the fun has just started :-P
My son has three bikes at the moment. One proper one for school, the BMX for playing, and a really old one he likes to fix and work on. He even repairs his own bike.
this is a fun site from an American who was in Amsterdam. He was shocked by the way we Dutch ride and use bikes. I never really thought about it. To me those photo's on his site are normal people, but I can imagine it is a bit strange :-D
it's a fun site! //www.ski-epic.com/amsterdam_bicycles/
