I kept trying to zoom out when they were running straight at me. I did end up with lots of chopped off heads and feet. |
Chopped heads and feet? See... that's exactly what I'm worried about. LOL!!!
The other problem is... 300mm sometimes isn't enough. I use all 400mm of my 100-400mm "most of the time" and find myself wishing it were longer! But then when the action comes in close, I go back to 100mm and still manage to get the shot. So a fixed 300mm won't be long enough ... and it won't be short enough either. I'd probably end up using a 1.4x converter on it.

Wow, I didn't even realize Sigma had a fixed 2.8 in that range! It would be interesting to give it a try. I'm afraid I have Canon tattooed on my shorts (or might as well, anyway) making me hesitant to consider purchasing it. But if there was a place to rent one, I'd certainly do that. |
I have had one for quite a while now. And while the quality of the shots is great. The AF speed is a tad slower then my L lens. Most of my sports shots are done with it. I have alot of trouble shooting with a fixed focal length just because I havent done a ton of it, so my compromise was the Sigma lens so that it fit my shooting style better. I'll eventually go with a 300 2.8 canon on one body and the 70-200 on another, that is when I can afford 2 one series bodies.
