jen bekmanâs Hey, Hot Shot!, the premier seasonal competition for emerging photographers, is now accepting entries for the Summer 2007 Edition. The entry deadline Tuesday August 7, 2007!
Selected contenders are featured daily on the Hey, Hot Shot Blog (//www.heyhotshot.com/blog), so it pays to get your entry in before the deadline crunch.
Submitting your entry is fast and easy: Go to //www.heyhotshot.com/enter Fill out the brief application, including an artistâs statement and bio, pay the handling fee ($60) and then upload three photos.

Hey, Hot Shot! is the leading opportunity for emerging photographers to gain footing in the contemporary art world. Gallery owner and competition founder Jen Bekman is widely esteemed for her efforts to discover and promote new talent â American Photo named her the Gallery Innovator of the Year for âdeveloping a new generation of photo artists.â
The amazing panel includes: Jen Bekman, herself, alongside a multi-talented group of photo big shots, including Joerg Colberg â founder of the fine-art photography blog Conscientious, Stephen Frailey â Photography Department Chair at the School of Visual Arts, and Darius Himes â Editor in Chief of Photo Eye Book list and Lesley Martin â Publisher of Aperture Books.
Winners selected by the panel are featured as one of 10 photographers in the Hey, Hot Shot! 2007 Summer Edition Showcase, to be held at the gallery from September 13 â 16, 2007, with an opening reception on Wednesday September 12th from 6pm â 8pm. The winners are also eligible to be one of the 4 finalists whose work gets shown in the Hey, Hot Shot! Ne Plus Ultra Annual show in January. The Ultras are represented by jen bekman in the galleryâs inventory and via its website for the following year, with the goal of having a future solo exhibition.
Hey, Hot Shot! winners have ongoing relationships with the gallery: Spring â05 Hot Shot Christine Collins and Fall â06 Hot Shot Shen Wei are both featured in our critically acclaimed Summer group show, A New American Portrait. Summer â05 Hot Shot James Deavinâs solo show at the gallery, Photographs from the New World was featured in dozens of print and online publications . Spring â07 Hot Shot Nina Bermanâs Purple Hearts series will be featured at the gallery in August and countless Hot Shots participate in our ongoing jen@joe exhibitions.
