Advancements in telescope and CCD camera technology allows photography of our Sun in the light wavelength of Hydrogen-Alpha. I thought since many of the images posted in this forum utilizes the light from our Sun it would be interesting for fellow photographers to see our Sun up close and in Motion.

My collection solarIMAX style movies are simply still photographs of our Sun taken over a few hours and then animated. They are designed to be experienced Full Screen and Beyond. So enjoy the view as they fill-up and pour over the edges of your display. Viewing the dynamics of the Sun in Motion in resolution unique to the optics of an an SBIG CCD camera through a Coronado Solar Telescope is simply mesmerizing!

enjoy the view, gary palmer

btw, Thanks cpanaioti for teaching me how to make my link clickable!

What a strange start to your DPC life.

Cool pictures, but strange for a first ever post.

Gary, could you comment a little more on the H-alpha filters? I am an amateur astronomer too, but have never done H-alpha. I know there are both sun filters (sometimes called solar-prominence filters) specifically for photographing the sun, but there is also an H-alpha filter for photographing faint emission nebula (often called night-sky H-alpha). Can you talk about the difference in performance and cost??
