Ebay Listing

Just looking around, I'd really like a dslr. Any opinions on the Nikon D40?

dont know why they are giving you the 70-300 lens with it as this is only an AF lens and will not auto focus on a D40.. apart from that it looks like a pretty good deal but to be honest with you im sure you could loose all the pretty bits and get a better lens deal somewhere else..

I don't know about Nikon's, so I can't say. Just be careful buying electronics on EBay.

I agree with MAK and Sam. All the extras are crap you can pick up any time. Get the camera with a better kit lens and work from there.

That 70-300 lens is pretty cheezy. the 18-55 is a decent lens. a little cheap on the build but focal wise it is pretty sharp. And it will function on the D-40. Never really looked at what options they offer for kits on the D-40 but I am sure they must have a few.

Here is a good website with great information on how to select the right dslr. I read through the entire site in one day and a few times over. After I read the entire site, I even emailed the site owner to ask a few questions and he was very nice. Answered promptly and with detail.

Are you dead set on the Nikon or are you open to other brands as well?

Yep, check out Pentax. I have owned and used Canon for some time and was losing interest, then I sold all Canon gear and got this baby Pentax, the K100D...and the Super version has just been released...and Wow! I am back with a bang. Okay, I still take the crappy shots, but with a little experimention, there are some sharp shots in 30 Day Floral! So, will I change? Perhaps, but I like the K100D, it is well built and feels good, maybe the next K10D. But I am sticking with Pentax, for sure.
