There seems to be a couple of projects out there where an item is sent from photographer to photographer. Most seem to be based in the US, is anyone interested in participating a Canadian version?

Me too. I used to have this book when I was a kid that had pictures from every province and territory that showed something about the culture and history of that place. I think it would be great to do something like that.

Maybe we don't need to send a memory card around, but get everyone to take pictures during the next month of the culture and history of the Canadian places where they live and visit. We could make our own book and include optional descriptions of the history and cultures that are described in each photo.

great Idea, the "book" could even be a CD of photos, or something as easily shipped. Im in Vancouver, and have been waiting for something to get me off my ass since the DPL closed. I can already think of some Ideas.

Maybe a couple of photo's and a brief description of their historical/ cultural/ personal sentimental value?

sounds neat.

Count me in..except I live in the States. I missed out and my state is already taken so you can make my a honorary Canadian for a day. I'll get a picture of the item w/ some Canadian bacon or something or my Grandmother who is from Canada! I'll even drink Molson if I have to....

Trevor - without trying to sound terribly exclusive, it might make sense to limit the photographs to those actually taken in Canada in the area and culture they are meant to represent. I see absolutely no reason you couldn't visit Canada and photograph the region you visit, but it just doesn't seem quite right otherwise.

Am I alone on this one or do others agree with me? I don't want to represent the opinions of others without actually knowing their opinions.

I know, just kidding around..Keep it exclusive Canadian. You guys have fun and make sure you post em so we all can see!

Trevor,

I have no problem with you joining, but you would need to cheer for the Leafs, or Canucks, drink Molson, eat maple syrup, live in an igloo, Listen to Ann Murray (not that I do, but it would prove your commitment) ;') and say "eh" after every sentence. Oh ya, and you would need to tell us where the Phrase "your such a Hoser" comes from, and maybe swear allegiance to the queen for good mesure.

I'd be willing to give you honorary "Canadian" statis in exchange for all that. Regarless I'll make sure your included in the results.

Ok!I'm officailly out! I was ok with the maple syrup, igloo living and molson beer, eh. But I draw the line at Ann Murry and rooting for any Canadian Team before the Blues get their first Cup. Btw, the Strange Brew quote was no problem, love that movie, you hoser! I'm off to get my free case of beer, I just found a mouse in my beer!

I live in Buffalo, NY - my house is right in line with a view of the Peace bridge. I go to the races in Fort Erie and the Candian side of Niagara Falls is spectacular! compared to the US side. I could take shots of the new Peace Bridge they are building (maybe a twin span bridge?)...Oh WAIT our side has their head so far up their A$$ they can't build a bridge in a timely manner. Still I'd like to be in, regardless of the Sabre/Senators playoff outcome ;)

There's no reason we can't have multiple people from the same place. I'm sure you will all take different pictures that cover different points of view of the history and culture of a region.

I thought about this a bunch while I couldnèt get to sleep last night. Here is what I came up with.

First the result would be a photo CD\slide show.

The photo's would be e-mailed rather than a card being sent around the country.

I was thinking that every town, city, province has it's "Tourist spots" or Monuments we could have a woody travel to each of these spots.

Woody goes to Green Gables
Woody visits the Olympic Satdium
Woody at the CN tower
Woody skis Whistler
Woody at the Sudbury Nickle
You get the picture.....(hehe I made a funny)

We would of course have to give Woody a good Canadian Name.

As for set up of the slide show-

It would be sorted by Province

1st page per province Black screen white writing the Province Name
2nd page Woody holding the provincial flag, or standing in front of it ...something like that
3rd page 1st photo with a blurb fron the photograph...where it is and what it all about.
4th page 2nd photo and so on.

Let me know what you think.

I like the Woody idea. Will we use our own woody or mail one around the Country?
08/03/2007 08:19:14 AM · #16
The Woody can travel or we each use our own. I'm not sure how much they cost. I may be cheaper to buy a bunch rather than Canada Post.

So far we have
JRDawson - Vancouver
Jeffl - Vancouver
Geoffb - Calgary
dknourck - Calgary
dsterner - New York - Niagara Falls
Alain - Montreal
and myself - Montreal but will be visiting the Gaspe in October...maybe Woody can visit Perce Rock.

Having more than one shoot per city/area is fine as long as we coordinate not to shoot the same event or monument.

Oh yeah, forgot trevytrev....if you ever set foot in our wonderful country you can submit a photo of that experience. Only rule of this thing is the photos must have a Canadian subject

I live close to Ottawa and often travel to Montreal and Quebec City and might be able to help in those areas.

Yea I have no problems with that, I'm going to be going to a couple towns this weekend one for a heritage day festival in Strathmore and there is supposed to be a big air show this weekend in Lethbridge, Ive never been to the air show but its supposed to be a good one aparrently, and maybe do a little hiking in Banff on Monday (long holiday for us). And I also agree that Drumheller is gorgeous :)

I do not have a "woody" though. (insert your own joke here...)

I would love to be in this. I am in Hinton Alberta which is 45 minutes from Jasper. Can I join?

I think the canucka-woody will look great with the Worlds Largest Hydrolic Liftlock in the background. (Peterborough's claim to fame)

On second thought...why don't we get a nice, beanie baby type beaver instead of a woody?

Hmmm... I'm really not a fan of woodies. I think they would be very distracting and take away from the rest of the photo, especially if we are trying to show some aspect of Canadian culture.
I know having a similar element in each photo adds to the project in that in links each of the photos together better, I think the culture theme already does so.
Just my 2 cents.
