Okay, I am still contemplating where to move on to.

Does anyone have any preference? The pictures out of these cameras really excite me. The S602 a little less because it requires more post-processing.

I think I am going to hold off on the 10D because I am too inexperienced right now.

Pros, cons, opinions, thoughts -- I'm all ears -- I'd love people's input.

well, I'm not up to date on the costs, but by the time you buy that Sony, are you really that far away from the 10D?

take that cost gap into consideration. Once you buy one of these and take it home, it ain't going up in value. you could wait a month and get the cheaper 300-d too, don't forget

Best Buy took the model I was questioning about properly functioning and switched it for the new unit (I wanted a refund, they wouldn't honor it). After treating my husband and I so bad -- I refused to give them the sale so in time I convinced Best Buy to take it back and they finally agreed (only after they sold the unit I tried) for a full refund. After the ordeal with Best Buy, I just wanted out -- due to frustration.

Since then I have sat here and pondered what to do. I can't decide. I just have an emotional bad taste in my mind about the 10D -- which isn't just, I know. I live so frick'n far from civilization it isn't easy to shop either. I have to drive a million miles each direction to see one camera and then another million miles to see another model. I don't have any good stores nearby...so I can't try good lenses with it either.

Part of me is scared I am a lemonhead and the next 10D might be exactly the same. Maybe it was all me. I still am unsure...and with that...I'm shying away from it.

Judging by your complaints about the 10D and your needs, The F717 (or 828) would be an excellent choice. No news about the F828's ability to handle the noise from the extremely tight pixel pitch (squeezing 8mp into the smae space as 5mp potentially causes a lot of problems, and who really needs 8mp when the 5 prints brilliant 8x10s...) and distortion introduced through the longer zoom but the 28mm wide-angle is reason alone to make the switch. That, and the 640x480 30fps movie mode. When the MS Pro gets larger (that mode won't work with CF as far as I know) you'll essentially have a finctional video camera. 640x480 is awesome resolution for the TV.

However, since the F717 is proven as an excellent camera (I'm keeping mine even though I just bought a 10D myself) you can't go wrong with buying one even after the F828 announcement. The viewfinder resolution is excellent, I wouldn't worry about using it for autofocus. I've never had problems. Manual focus a bit harder, but possible.

I love my F717. Granted, it's the first and only digital camera I've ever owned, but I think I made the right choice. My only quibble with it is that you can't zoom with your right hand. You can hold it and shoot with one hand, but not zoom. My old film SLR let me do everything one-handed except the weird stuff with the tiny buttons, so it's taking some getting used to to realize I need my left hand to work the zoom.

another option you might want to look at is the Fugi Finepix 700it's the upgrade from the s602 and it has a lot of nice features. It's price pointed at about 800.00 USD and It's due out in Oct. Another reason I'm considering it is it takes CF cards which considering how much I have invested in my memory cards and how much memory I ended up getting and using with my 3.1 cam I didn't want to start over with a whole new system.

Wait for the Sony F828 that comes out in November. 8 megapixels, user-friendly, and all the options that even a professional might need. I just got my camera a few months ago, so I don't think my wife will let me upgrade this year, but it would sure be great!

If you take a fair amount of photos, you'll be burning a CD everday LOL with an 8 MP camera...

Indeed...which is why I'd be cautious about the noise. It will probably not be an issue, though the fact that Sony have opted to go with the T coating on the lenses leads me to think that the limits of the lens and the sensor are being stretched to the utmost.

I'd rather have a cleaner image at 5mp than a noisy 8mp 'cause I'd likely be taking photos at 5mp or smaller 99% of the time anyways. The Canon G5 is purportedly a lot worse in the noise department than the G3, without a huge jump in practical resolution.

I have a few things to say.
Fuji 7000 for (799)List which most likely will be found for 700 or less at buydig.com when it comes out. TTL, shutter from 15 sec to 1-10000ths of a second. Yup that is right there are 4 zeros there. Besides that you have Dual Media Card readers XD and Compact Flash/MicroDrive.
6x optical along with Macro Capabilities that just blows the other Cams away in my oppinion. Sorry Sony Fans my money is on the Fuji's Fourth Generation HD CCD. 6mp/12 Effective megapixle Cam
That is just an Afterthought.

With the new Fuji 700 coming out you should be able to pick up a 602z for a bargain price. I just cant get enough of my 602z - its brilliant.

I have to say that i think the S602 is a better deal. you can find one on ebay now for under 500 bux. the CCD chip is awesome, and the 602 gives you almost all the features of an S2 model. My choice is the S602, tho i'm obviously somewhat biased.

...or wait for the Canon EOS-300D digital SLR for $900. It̢۪s been announced and should hit the selves soon. It will probably turn the prosumer market upside down.
