I hear that. I have plenty of 4.2 (or worse) scores, and I deserved most of them, but the Free Study scores always seem lower than I would have guessed.

Speaking of free studies, mine is dropping so fast that even with scores turned off I can still hear it falling. I warned my victim that it'd suck. Hopefully he/she won't be too terribly disappointed. |

I think everyone's FS is falling, lol. People have gotten sooo harsh in their judgement.

a Public Service Announcement:
We will be OOBIE-less and YAPPIE-less next week if some of y'all don't scoot on over to the nomination thread and nominate somebody who is deserving of one.

So.....this is the third birthday (52) that I have to confront the idea that I'm more than a half-century old and still not prepared to accept that theoretically.....I'm a grown-up.
I just really don't feel that differently than when I was 20, barring the arthritis and the normal physical decline.
I certainly don't have to worry about the whole second childhood thing since it'll be another 30-40 years 'til I'm done with this one!
I'm just trying to behave and not buy myself that 18-200 VR lens and claim it's a birthday gift to myself.
Some days it sucks to be a grown-up!......8>)
Anyway.....sucking along in FS and Street at 5.2ish in both.

Before we moved to Illinois and I had to find them new homes, my cats went in together and bought me my Canon 5D for my birthday! They were such good, good pets.

I have had conservations with my cats about supporting my addiction like they could be doing commercials or something but they always ignore me. |

I'd prefer it if they would just do some cleaning around the house. That would free up a lot of my time so I can devote more of it to photography. |

I've tried to convince mine to learn how to cook, but NOOOoooo. They can't be bothered with that. They do serve as fairly accurate alarm clocks, with no regard whatsoever for weekends or holidays. At present, they are providing entertainment in lieu of a television for their caregivers, or so I'm told. I've not yet received details, but the hand-off from one friend to the next took place this past weekend. The current caregiver and her young daughter have just newly arrived in Germany and don't yet have their electronics purchased, installed or hooked up. In fact, she says she may forego television altogether, given the entertainment value of my cats (combined with hers.) Maybe she'll do a video for me.... |

CLEAN????????
Mine are too busy applying the appropriate fur in the appropriate places......the one in your eye first thig in the morning, the one in your sandwich, and of course, I have the coordinating cats for all wardrobes......black cats for light clothes, white cats for dark clothes, and medium mottled cats for all occasions.
And don't forget the strategically placed hairballs you find in the dark on the way to the bathroom!

Just a reminder that updates on Sunday might be a little late; I'll be in an escrima class in San Francisco during the day (woohoo!) and I'm not sure when I'll be online afterward.
Escrima: more fun than you can shake a stick at!

I think something must be wrong in the world. Really. I've won a Yappie (very much appreciated), my Street Photography II shot is at 6.1+ (thanks to Jeff and Christian for comments pre-challenge), and (most surprising of all) my Free Study entry is at 5.6+ after 50 votes (anyone who's seen me whining about Free Studies knows I almost gave them up after not breaking 5.0 before now).
So, what's up with that (not that I'm complaining, mind you)?
Hope everyone is well; I'm away in Germany now for three weeks, and have some new surroundings to shoot!
Best,
Rob

My cat brings me presents, usually in the form of not quite yet "finished" bird dishes . . . I'll take fur, hair balls and entertainment any day!

For those who may have never seen it, George Carlin talks about cats (and gets it right, at least in my experience). Be warned, though, as is common with Carlin, lots of nasty language in the clip.

Life's been kind of hectic around here for the last couple of days - I'm not going to retype it here, but it's in the "Personal Life" section already. Hubby went back to work today, and aside from forgetting that Boo had a soccer game tonight (and now I've got no car to get him there), life is back to status quo.

July has been such a busy, sucky month for so many people (ahem... Melethia) that I have to wonder if there's some weird alignment of planets and stars... |

Rob, how dare you go to Germany when I'm not there???
Lea, glad your situation got resolved quickly and well, and that things are pretty much back to normal.
And for me, it's mostly sticky, not sucky. Not being able to get out and take pictures much kinda sucks, but I've got it pretty good here - can't complain. |

Any alignment of planets and stars is weird - mostly they're just scattered around.
ETA - that said, I had a wonderful little July there with a Grand Family Reunion on the 15th and plane tickets to the UK and hotel and car rental all booked up and I even managed to persuade a loan of the firm's car to make the trip to the Norwegian airport and back a little easier - filled up with petrol going on half way to the airport and drove another few kilometres before realising I should have filled up with diesel (all of which is probably called something else in America, but either way it's the wrong fuel) so bang goes the flights and the (re)union with a lot of people whom I've never even met etc etc. I'd ordered a D200 at the airport duty free on the return journey, so I missed that, too. The cats were so pleased at not being abandoned for the weekend that they clubbed together and got me one from Norway anyway (the Norwegian gov. puts 50-100% import tax on whatever they fancy, so the price has to be around $1.5K ++) but they could only run to a direct Japanese import thing that leaves me with an incomprehensible manual and RAW images that won't open in PS.
I did start reading a wonderful new book in which I learned(?) that there is a village at the base of Mount Ararat:
It was there, in the heart of ancient Armenia amid the billowing hostile waters, that Noah launched the Ark from which we all came. Its passage left traces, and the first little town on the Russian slopes is called Nakhichevan - in old Armenian, 'the people of the ship'.
Which leads me to think what a shame it is that melethia/Deb can't be in Iraq now the way Nicolas Bouvier was 50 years ago.
You will tell me if this post is getting too long now, won't you?
Oh.
Congrats to the oobie and yappie recipients and I'd note that the whole business brought this increasingly ubiquitous picture to my fickle notice. It's such a studied and well balanced still life, in which traces are left of the passage of the hand and mind of the Posthumous man. Much credit to our fearless leader.
OK, OK ...

Raish, sorry to hear the trip ended up being a bit "off" from what you'd planned; glad to hear the cats chipped in on the camera (quite generous of them!); did you try downloading a manual in whichever language best suits you?
You're more than welcome to ramble on here any time you please. Always a delightful read. And yes, it's a bit sad that I don't really get to see any of the countries I'll be in, other than the American camps in which I'll be posted. Sad that the Big Boys can't seem to play nice nor understand that blowing up other people isn't a neat and tidy way to achieve a goal. |

Deb, you knew I was coming (or at least should have, I pm'd you about it awhile back; at least I think I did); gave me a complex thinking that you ran off just to avoid a Munich GTG! Not that you were anywhere near Munich, really, but still . . .
Hope all is well, Deb, and yes, Raish, I second Deb's endorsement of your ramblings, whatever their length.
Best,
Rob

Team Suck doesn't ask much of you, but one of our proudest achievements is the coveted Sucker award, provided as Oobies and Yappies. Please nurture this tradition, which krnodil is singlehandedly life-supporting at the moment, by visiting her here:

Well seeing how I'm going to be a year older on Sunday my present to myself was getting a new camera. I got a Canon EOS 30D. So now I think that I'll need a photography class and pick the minds of you all that all ready have one. I got it Wednesday and have been playing with it. Nothing like have a new toy to make you feel young again :) |
