Whats wrong with its score what did u want a 6 an 8 a 10? Why cant you ever just get what you get and its that lol. Its different to everyone. If i look at it i dont see extreme emotion. In fact nothing about this image says shes jaming her anger out into an amp. Nothing says she hates the world. In fact the background while the lighting is good is just wrong for it.
Besides if she was jaming out her hate the world feelings.. it would be pretty damn quiet with no amp! As far as it goes off subject as i said the lightings nice for indoors... but other then that.....
I say this with love to my team mate.

I think the comments really nail it. The shot looks posed and not very punk. she doesn't have a pick and the background is not so great. All in all i think the shot is good but that was enough stuff for people to give 4s I guess. |

Crooked horizon, blah setting, obviously not actually playing, too close to the bkg (shadows), odd wall texture makes the guitarist look oddly giant...
=) But you're right - it's not a bad shot. The lighting is nice, and the model looks convincing. It's just those little details I mentioned above that would boost this above 6. Each one will bug somebody, and the score will drop as a result. |

Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger. I didn't vote in that Challenge. Here's my ultra hard-core take on it.
It might have been taken with a studio flash, but it looks like a basic camera flash. The shadow on the wall in the right of the picture is pretty distracting. I don't see any emotion at all. She's scrunched into the right side of the picture. The angle isn't really interesting. I'd like to at least see her hand and the guitar neck. The parquet floor makes it look like she's playing in the kitchen, which is a hard place to rock out.
The hair, guitar and outfit look pretty interesting, but the voters probably saw the above issues. |

it's not even my photo dumbass. I just want to know why because technically i think it's great and I dont see how it scored a 5.3, 5.6 yeh ok...that would certainly beat out some of the other crap above it.
EDIT: I can call Jeff a dumbass because he stalks me so instead of me calling the cops, I call him names.

I thought it was a decent pic, but I got zero emotion from it. What emotion would a hard rocker be feeling? I think they'd be having fun, but that's neither extreme nor exactly an emotion.

(IMO) The outfit, hair and guitar are all kewl however, the shot feels way to cramped. Also we need to see the guitarist face... music is about expression and there is nothing like a musicians face to tell the story. As pointed, out the background could have been a lot better. Sharpness and Lighting does not always make a great photo. |

You are not a rocker then:) I would say that Hendrix and Joplin felt emotion. I wouldn't say that Henry Rollins was having fun I would say he was pissed. C.C.Deville may be having fun but hat guy couldn't rock his way out of paper bag. |

ummm, this was a faceless emotion challenge. so how can they show the face? then everyone would say it DNMC.

I agree with you here. When I score a mid-5, I always see stuff above it that irks me.
But, I think voting is less selective in the mid-5 range. Shots are flawed in different ways for which there is no numeric value, so it's hard to compare shots. Plus there are just so many that end up in that range.
So, in the end, it's best to simply try to beat your own average and thus improve. |

Compare it to this, which barely broke 6.0

The background kinda kills it for me too. Would be a great place for an isolated gray or black B/g.

I agree, but it's hard to do when i'm thinking this photo was good ya know. I usually know why my own photos tank, but only after I get some comments.

It's an average shot. No wow, no big mistakes. So it got an average score.
You can grind your teeth to dust looking through shots that score higher than yours (or your favorite). It's not worth making the comparison. |

this shot got an 8 from me. I do feel more emotion for this one since he is on stage and he has the whole rocker image goin.

I think this is much better, the environment is a bit off at first but you can tell its an open stage. The hair motion, the realism of playing. The whole image goes.
But we went from punk teen who hates her life to hard rocker, drugs alcohol and sex. |

Jdannels had a better photo overall. But again, what's the emotion felt by someone playing music?

not grinding my teeth, just asking a question. and what part of it's not my photo do you people dont get. I'm only asking because I THOUGHT it was good and a 5.3 is very low. Didn't say it deserved a ribbon just wondering why the majority didn't like it. I dont even know why I started this thread. I mean, I know people don't read the challenge descriptions, so why would I think people would actually read what I have written so far.

As I said. there can be plenty of emotion playing music. Do you think Tori Amos sings Me and a gun with no emotion? how about John Lennon's Imagine. Is there no songs that stir any emotion in you? If not then you are listening to the wrong music. If so then those are the emotions that people have playing it. BTW having fun comes from being happy and happy is an emotion. |

Gotcha... didn't notice that part...but in that case emotion (lack of) most likely hurt this one. Technically crisp but too mechanical for me. Perhaps slow shutter with some motion blur... but as it stands (imo) it comes across as a girl in a cute outfit that is bent in half to fit the crop. |
