| I was reading about it and at one point it says "Shutter life = 100,000 shutter cycles", does this means that after 100,000 photographs 30D would need to have shutter replaced?? |

Pretty much. It can go before then and if so under the waranty its replaced for free (they tried to tell someone here they used theirs too much). It can last longer then that at times.
100,000 times is not bad. The 1D Mark III is 300,000 i believe and for a camera that shoots up to 10 fps that can go quick. |

Does this mean that if I do continue photography more often, shutter would die before time? :) |

| Yes each time the shutter opens and closes thats a cycle, actuation, whatever. I do not know if firing 10 frames individually wears the same as firing 10 frames in continous. But as far as cycles/actuations go thats 10 of them. |

It was idnic that had the isse with Canon saying it was over used. But either way your shutter could las a lot longer than that. This is just a manufactures way of saying we won't cover it.

If you shoot 25,000 frames a year (about 70 per day), the 30D would last 4 years :) and even if you shoot 50,000 frames a year, your camera still lasts for 2 years :) I think that's long enough for you to get your desired value from the 30D. No matter how much we love photography, I don't think we would ever have time to shoot 70 to 140 frames everyday. Sometimes we could go for days without even touching the camera, and sometimes we could put up 1000 shots on a Sunday.
Does anyone know the shutter life of a Rebel XT? I've been using one for 2 years and it has about 13,000 clicks.

| Where or how do you check your "clicks" on 30D or Rebel? |

I read somewhere that this tool shows you the status of click but don't know if it does. |

File names is the best way to check. Although these can be fairly unreliable if you used a card from another camera and/or didn't use continuous file numbering.
And not only do you get that much life out of the shutter, but a new one goes for about $250-300 which is still much cheaper than a new body. :)

| How much does it cost to replace the shutter? My counter says I have around 10k on my camera, but when I sent my camera out for warranty repair the shutter was amoung the things they replaced. |

| My shutter and shutter release was replaced after 50,000 actuations, but I shoot in dust and/or sand a lot. It cost $144 (add 20% because I got a CPS discount.) Thought that was pretty reasonable, but enough reason to bite the bullet and buy a Mark III for true weather-sealing. Well, that wasn't the only reason. ;-) |
