Right now, when I download 2G memory from the D200 to my laptop (Windows XP) it takes about 10 minutes. To import the same amount of data to iPhoto (on the iMac) it takes 30 or a bit more minutes. It also takes 30 or more minutes to just copy/paste from the card on the D200 to the iMac.
Does anyone know if I can speed up the imports to iPhoto (and also copy/pastes), and how? |

| Boy, the only thing I can think of is that your Mac is a few years old and it has USB 1.o not USB 2.0. My 1.0 Mac is really slow at downloading files into iPhoto, but my newer Mac with USB 2.0 hauls ass. |

That would've been my guess too, but since you have an Intel iMac, maybe you're plugging the cable/reader into the keyboard USB port or some other device that will slow it down to USB 1.1. Try plugging directly into a port on the back or, better still, get a Firewire card reader. |

Ahhhh. Yes, I was plugging it into the keyboard. Plugging it into the back speeds it up a lot! Thanks!
How fast do Firewire card readers work? Like, about how fast would 2G download? |

I prefer either Image Capture or Aperture for speedier downloads and would recommend to invest in a FireWire card reader. The speed of USB 2.0 Card readers varies from brand to brand and the terminology used to rate them is deceiving, to say the least.
I have to transfer 17MB files and they just fly (compared to USB 2.0) using FW readers. |

OK, so if I get a Firewire card reader, can I use it both on the iMac and on the Toshiba? I use the Toshiba for travelling (it's Windows XP).
BTW - plugging it into the back of the iMac really speeds it up a lot! Wow!

You can if the Toshiba has a firewire port.

IEEE1394 is the same as FireWire?
I have a little port on the Toshiba that I think is IEEE1394 (I've never used it for anything). It is smallish, like a small rectangle with a little dip in one side.
It doesn't look the same as the FireWire port on the iMac.
Oh well.
Thanks guys!!!!!
