"I mean, come on, DPC is a nice place to visit friends and all, and to see suck ass images like mine for the pity factor, but, why are there not more kick ass pro web sites for me to book mark from the elites here on DPC?"
Because professional photographers dont have the time or the inclination to enter competition websites such as this.
And to answer your other question, if all the multiple ribbon winners left then the standard on this site would be so poor, there would be nothing to aspire to.
People always talk about learning on this site which is fair enough, but why cant people be more conerned with expressing themselves as opposed to what basically is pleasing the masses which is what you do when you win ribbons here. There are very few winners that dont satisfy the DPchallenge requirements of sharpness, colour composition that everyone 'learns'.
There are great talents here, I was look at Joey Lawrence's website yesterday and he's played the game well (christ he's so young!) as well as making a bit on the side with his tutorial DVD and now I'd say hes working as a professional photographer does. Does he enter challenges here anymore?
DP challenge is great fun but if your serious about your photography and about finding your own vision I'd really say it does more damage than good because it's very easy to be influenced by winning with your DPchallenge type photographs' (look at scalvert he's learnt the formula and he wins everytime!!) as opposed to the rejection and ridiculous uneducated input you get from more experimental images.
I've had a good time here and it seems like a really nice community of people and that's the most important thing I reckon. Byebye

What about Skip? His profile pic has William Shatner written all over it, IMO!

that's funny, and intriguing in it's own way.

I have heard through the grape vine that Shatner is a photog. Maybe, just maybe....he likes to be called Skip as well.

beam me up, scotty, there's no room for professionals down here (at least according to bood...)

me and my merry little band of hooligans have won some ribbons, but are more focused on shooting what we like that shooting for a formula.

;-)

[quote=jaded_youth] I don't feel I'm good enough to sell myself or my art yet.

Ummm... I beg to differ. Your stuff is pretty awesome!

my ribbons are a thing of the past and my current style pretty much means i won't be winning any more...lol. but, my style of photos gets me some pretty cool gigs and i stay here because i love all the friends i've made and the sense of family that's here.
