I don't really see anything wrong with all the paparazi photos. Its not there fault the demand is so high. These guys are talented photographers. They put themselves in the right place and they get the photos. Their creativity doesn't come in the form of a final image like other photogs, their creativity comes in finding ways to constantly and consistantly be in the right place at the right time. Its not a coincidence that the same photogs get images time and time again.
I thought I read somewhere that they sold the rights before the birth to ace out the paparazzi. The photographer probably only recieved normal fees from People mag.

Don't they know I would have done those shots for 50% off what they paid?
I would even pay my own travel expenses, not that hiring Erik Estrada as a chauffeur would be a big expense.
I also believe that Tom Cruise "sold" the right to photo his alien offspring.
I'm not sure "sold" is what happened, but they did control it tightly and it didn't go to just any old gossip rag and paparazzi, the magazine was Vanity Fair and the photog was Annie Liebowitz. Not exactly some perv hiding in a bush with a 600mm lens, eh?
With that price-tag I'd have some great lenses and a LOT of patience too.. all the time of the world!!

Hah... ya'll wouldn't see my ass anymore after I took that shot. I'd retire with a swiftness. The only challenges I would ever enter would be "Challenge: Sexy bikini babes on tropical beaches"
It's certainly abundantly clear to me why I make virtually nothing as a part time professional with little or no public exposure. There are a million starving photographers for every one of those big-buck shots.
Don't get me wrong, I'n really not complaining and I have a real grasp on the marketability of what I shoot, but I'd sure hate to have to rely on photography to feed my family.
On a side note, I have enjoyed some minor successes over the years in a few publications and the admiration of friends and family.
Sure, but you have an agent to support (15-40%), a lawyer to keep on a retainer (for obvious reasons), insurance to pay, the tax man to pay, tipsters to pay off, transport and etc. It's a costly mission and mostly they are ungrateful... the subjects, that is...

Richard Dreyfus got married in the Harrisonburg, VA court house awhile back. Now, we don't often see celebrities around (read NEVER). I work right off of Court Square. My favorite camera store is right off of Court Square. I was in Court Square with my camera the day Richard Dreyfus tied on the noose. I SAW Richard Dreyfus and his bride, and I thought to myself, "Hey! That guy looks like Mr. Holland's Opus!" and continued about my buisness. D'oh!

That was OBVIOUSLY not a papparzzi photo. Most likely these days it was a photog that was hired to come and take that (and other) baby shots.
I bet Angelie there was smart enough to keep the copyright or at least strike a deal with the photog on the sales price of the photos.
If I was offered the opportunity to take such photos I'd do it - even if the stipulation was i'd have to split/share any fees I got for selling the images. $2.05M is better than nothing!
