In a few weeks I'm driving to Georgia to spend a week on a horse-riding resort with my family.
We'll be in Madison...about 50 miles east of Atlanta.
I'm hoping that folks with knowledge of the area can suggest sights to see (and photograph, of course).
Thanks. |

Madison is a typically southern small town with some great victorian homes well worth having a look at. If you make any trips into Atlanta, you should see Centinial Park and maybe the Botanical gardens - both great places to shoot. The park makes for great night shots. The mountains north of Atlanta are amazingly scenic, just depends on how far you want to travel while you're there. There are tons of other things to do in the area.....
What kind of places would you like to visit, people places, scenic spots, etc.? That would help us to guide you a bit better.

My parents live in the Reynolds Plantation resort community on Lake Oconee just south of Greensboro, which is near Madison. The lake has some very scenic views, but I can't tell you how to find them from outside the gated community. There is also lots of rural life scene, old barns and baby livestock. As mentioned, Madison has a some very pretty homes, a big Confederate graveyard, and a neat downtown square. |

I'd like to experience a mixture of interesting geography/scenery, and history/culture.
Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone! You can be sure I'll make a full report (written and photographic) when I return. |

Hi everyone. I returned from Georgia a few days ago with almost 900 photos to sift through!
It was a great trip and, in spite of everyone's generous suggestions, I didn't get a chance to visit any of the recommended sites.
I did see a lot of great stuff, though, and I will be posting pics as soon as I get them edited.
Holy jumping snappers it was hot down there! I understand that people are dying from the heat in Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Even Ohio was warm.
For the six days we were in Madison, the daily temps were well over 100F...in the shade! And the first few days were humid on top of that. We get some stinkers here in southern Ontario, but nothing like that.
My favourite part of the trip was a visit to a Shaker village in Harrodsburg. Very cool architecture and design. Lots to photograph.
Pics will follow shortly. |

Hey, I finally posted some pics from the trip. I've only been able to get to the horse shots for now. More will be coming.
I'd love feedback if anyone feels like offering some.
