I keep chasing down these links to great prices on the 10D. They all turn out to be gray market, no accessories (you get the body only, no battery, charger, software, strap, paperwork, etc).
Does anyone know of a decent deal on a Canon 10D where you actually get one in the package new for that price? I'm not trying to take anyone to the cleaners, I'd just rather save a few dollars if anyone knows of a reputable place with a decent deal.
I also found quite a few lenses and IBM microdrive from a vendor on Ebay. All items are listed as brand new with USA warranty. They seem to be decent prices, I'm just a little wary of Ebay. Has anyone dealt with this place?
Flashpoint Cameras

I tried it and found a vendor (Park Deals) that guarantees brand new, factory sealed items with USA warranty.
They had the Canon 10D for $1245, so I bought one. Woo hoo!!
I bought the three year extended warranty for $240. I've never been big on extended warranties... They are usually expensive, and then the item never breaks or if it does, it is not covered. I bought one anyway this time....
Now I need some lenses...

I think you paid way too much on extended warranties -- did the guy call you?
See this is what they do, they advertise on a very low price, then they call you to buy all the extras, if you don't buy them, they won't sell the camera to you and if you did, you'd be ripped off.
Stay away from most NY places (especially in Brooklyn). The only dealer i'd deal with is BHPhoto.
Another good place: Bestpriceaudiovideo.com @ //www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com I think they have the 10D at $1350. They're a great dealer.

I think it's pretty much a wash. Lower camera price, higher extended warranty or higher camera price lower warranty. I checked B&H Photo...
To buy the 10D body and 3 year warranty would have cost about $40 more than I paid. ...plus B&H is out of stock.
After investing many hours searching all over the internet, asking in forums, etc. I've come to the conclusion that the end price will be pretty much the same. The only way to get a screamin deal is to buy gray market with no accessories included.
So... I've got one on the way and it has a warranty (which I'm not a big fan of to begin with, but chose to go with for this purchase). Now I'm just looking forward to getting it!

Thanks... can't wait. I think I'm going to get the 50mm 1.4L and the 70-200mm f4.0 L to start with. I'll probably have to get a macro lens pretty quickly. I use macro mode all the time on my Sony 717, and did the same on my Nikon CP 5700. Life with no macro could be rough on me.

Life with no macro is no fun at all!
That's why I just ordered up the 100mm F2.8 USM Macro. $459 at 17th Street Photo. I also ordered a 12mm extension tube so I can use it with my EF 2.0x II extender, should give me over 2x life size.
Also a wonderful portrait lens. I am waiting anxiously.
Edit:
Ooh, almost forgot, also ordered the TC-80N3 Remote Timer/Release so those Loooong focal length macro shots don't get the shakes!
Damn, I'll be so poor I won't be able to pay attention before this disease runs its course...

You mean the F1.4 USM? (I believe hte L version is 50 mm F1.0L and cost a ton, better spent on something like 24-70mm F2.8L imho)
I think you'll find that there aren't much difference between F1.8 ($60 versus F1.4 ($200)

Right you are...
I think that 1.0 50mm is about $2500. That's crazy.
So you don't think there is enough difference between the 1.4 and the 1.8? I saw a comparison and it looked like the 1.4 was a much better lens.
I keep seeing it for $300+... Where can I get it for $200????
Thanks,
JD

I just bought the 50mm f/1.8 because my 35-80mm is (A) old and the optics show it and (B) its only a f/4. I figured for the $69.95 the lens cost with shipping, it couldn't be as weak and slow as my current lense. The difference in my older, shorter lens and my newer Quantary 75-300mm is easily noticible and until I can save up enough for some of the L series, this will be a good choice for me.
If the 1.4 is that much better than the 1.8 I'll just have to envy you guys and gals for a little while. :)
Congrats, SmellyFish, and welcome to the 10D team.

Adorama has the 50/1.4 for $285... but it's gray market. Well, at least they clearly mark it as such.
17th Street Photo has it for $299, and they have 10.00 feedback on resellerratings.com.
B&H has both the gray market and the US version, same prices as Adorama & 17th respectively.
If you find it much cheaper, there's prolly a catch...

Ohhh....tell me I did the right thing...
I just bought a 10D, a 50mm 1.4 amd a 512mb Ultra Compact Flash card from adorama.com...
Yikes. I figured I'd get one eventually, so why not now. Tomorrow they'll probably announce the 3D at the same price.
Oh well. Anyone wanna buy some F717 converter lenses? They just got redundant...

is there a EOS 3D coming up?
if so does anyone know anything about it...

The rumour is that they're announcing something Aug. 20th, almost 100% sure it's the digital equivalent of the Rebel. Plastic, less features. Basically an entry level DSLR. Sounds very interesting.
It's really no secret that Canon's following their film lineup. They have the pro cameras in the 1D and 1Ds for the 1v equivalent and the 10D the rough match to the Elan 7, and are looking for a digital equivalent to the EOS 3. It's widely rumoured that the next serious camera, the 3D, will be slotted somewhere between the 1D and the 10D. Faster frame rate than the 10D, higher resolution than the 1D. Maybe a 4-6 fps camera at 6 megapixels, who knows. All I've heard is a Septemberish release.

Sorry, but my brother wants to buy mine...
Unfortunately, if all I could get for it were $100, I'd just give it to my 5 year old. He likes to take pictures already. LOL

I'm keeping mine for now...it's a lot smaller and I can take it places where I wouldn't want to take the 10D.
