I don't get it, why do these people post galleries on flikr of images they don't own?
One of those galleries is full of images from other sites, photo.net, dpc, lastinglight...
What's the point? |

Is Flickr evil, the people on it taking the gap provided(see link)? I have a feeling there are plenty more stolen images than what we know. There is one answer, watermark anything or use som means to protect all images we post.

I've heard someone say that Plagiarism is the highest form of flattery.
It still sucks, it is just plain thievery similar to identity theft.
That makes me hesitant to put my best shots in my gallery. Are we allowed to put Watermarks on photos in our Gallery that have not been entered in any Challenges?
Will someone please tell Flikr.com to put a section in the individuals account for adding their "Favorite Finds". That same thief has some famous photos of young Bill Gates and others, which are totally obvious he didn't take. |

| A lot of it just might be people digging your image and wanting to use it for something personal...like a desktop image or something. Still jerks. |

Absolutely! I know Brad has updated most of his, and I think skip is doing the same. |

you mean "imitation is the highest form of flattery."
if someone tries to copy your photo, set it up similarly, light it similarly, try see if they can do better, or try to make it look almost as good, etc. that is cool, good for them
plagiarism is just downright wrong

I sent a quick email to Howlerdoglover on Flickr asking politely for him to remove my photo from his photostream. He responded that he would. He hasn't taken it down yet, but I'm not too worried about it. Like others have said, it's not like they're putting them out in the groups showcasing them as their own work. And this isn't a photo I'm trying to make money off of, so it doesn't impact me as much as it impacts some of the rest of you.

Posting in a "Favorite Photos By Others" section, without permission from the author is stealing.
I'm sure many of us have copied VHS or DVD movies for our own use at home. Some of us have even shared them with friends and relatives, bragging how good it was. That's not legal, but if we try and sell them to the masses, that's even worse.
If someone tries to sell or make money off of someone else's work, then they should be arrested or fined with a portion of the fine going to the rightful owner. |

| When I find stolen photos, I post a public comment (if possible, like on Flikr) that the photo is stolen, that the person passing it off as their own should feel ashamed, and that I hope others will read the comment and discover just how unethical they are. I mean, how low can you go? |

Yeah you know in all honesty its not too bad looking. Funny thing though, when it was first brought it had ten views and no comments. Now it has 259 views and 2 comments. And although I appreciate the comments on my behalf, next time I'll take it up with the user who has them. :)
The user took the photo down when I contacted him and here is his reply:
I shall be more than happy to delete the photo, I found it on another SU site, as a matter of fact I have seen it on at least 10 other sites, and no I don't remember which ones. There are after all over 2 million people on SU so I of course will comply with your request but the image will still be on many, may other sites how it became so public I can't imagine.
Sorry to upset you. Sincerely, removed email address
SU=stumbleupon.com? I think
This pretty much means its never going away...
Thanks to jaded youth and Skip who sent me PM's to let me know about this version. very appreciated |

Even watermarked images are being used. I found one from AvidImages, with watermark right there for all to see, being used on a Flickr account. Found another on same account, that had the photographer's name on the bottom of the image.
I have contacted both photographers and have given them links to their images that were used.
The originating photographers need to be contacting Yahoo! about this, not just the idiots who stole the images.

Flickr is a Yahoo! company.
Good luck to all that is having this problem.

My blog shows me who is linking to it, and it shows that these two websites have posted pictures on their sites from my blog.
Maya's Granny: The dog at the top is from my blog. It's the dog that bit me in Bangkok. They're using it to illustrate some story about a mangy dog.
Who is McDougal: I don't know what the hell this is all about, I haven't looked at it hard enough, but that is my picture.
It doesn't really bother me though.
